The Tour Glide was introduced back in 1980. It was a new and improved handling Harley equipped with the now very outdated Shovel Head motor and was backed by Harley's new 5 speed transmission. It was built on a new style frame and was called (back then) The Jap Harley. It had a new look and now when you look back it will show you where Harley was going in the future. The Tour Glide in 1984 sported the new Harley Evolution Motor. The most incredible thing about the Tour Glide was the motor was RUBBER MOUNTED on the frame. It was called back then ( even by the factory) as "THE ROLLING RECALL" I am not sure when production of The Tour Glide ceased
The Tour Glide was reintroduced as a new production model and was called THE ROAD GLIDE! There is a rumor floating around that Road Glide production will cease with the end of the 2009 model year.
