Title: Plastic strip on Infotainment

This may be the dumbest question I’ve ever asked...but, curious...

Is there a reason for the plastic strip on the bottom portion of the Infotainment frame (in front of the ignition switch)?

Is it needed/functional?

If it is a CVO that is just a fork lock switch.  But it there to protect the paint finish from rubbing on the fork lock cover. I think the inner fairing flexes some and can come in contact especially when turn the knob to lock the forks.

That protective film bugged the heck out of me as well. Found out that if you leave the lid for the fork lock open, and then turn the lock, it will impact the inner fairing. I guess that explains the reason for the protective tape.

Like you stated, the clear plastic is there to protect the paint. If someone had the key cover opened and turned the fork lock, the paint would get scratched.
