Title: FXR2 Red Bike Walk-Around
Post by: Twolanerider on September 26, 2020, 12:12:27 AM
After being pimped in to showing off a walk-around of the SERK it seems prudent to be thorough and do one of the FXR also to complete the trio.  Guess it's a good thing don't still have the old SEEG.  Gawd knows what else might have been done or re-done to it by now....

So back to the FXR; which, by the way, has become my favorite local rider bike.  Just way fun.  Playing around on the comparatively light little bike is a hoot.  Even more so after having got it really dialed in over it's first year or so of owning it.

The FXRs signature tank.  Really its most distinctive feature to make it recognizably the 99 recast of the FXR as CVO for any of the colors.

When it got to me the front wheel was rotted from the inside out.  So new lots-o-spoke American Wire tubeless piece.  It balances out really well.

THE ORIGINAL SINGLE PUCK BRAKES S U C K E D .  My gawd it's easy to forget just how bad those old brakes used to be.  Even my old ass could outride those brakes.  So something better and all the braided brake lines and speedo cable to go with it (and all the handmade spacers to make the aftermarket wheel and brakes all play well in the forks with the mechanical speedo adapter).  Now it's all good, has run several thousands of miles, and it actually stops!

The bike came to me with forward controls.  All but unrideable for me.  Definitely unrideable for any extended length of time.  Found all the parts for cop bike floor boards. Soooo much better.  For me even better than its stock mid controls would have been.

Just a general profile.  It had a beach bar on it when I got it.  That sucked too.  SAC grips for comfort with bars that fit me.  Windshield added.  The braided spoons.  It fits me well now.

Different view of the same stuff.  Swapped the chrome thin tank panel for the old fashioned leather piece.  It's old fashioned but I like the look.  I'm old too... so it makes sense.

Oh yeah, it's an FXR with GPS.  Mount with parts swapped so the Zumo can go from the windshield of the SERK to the SERG to this bike.  It's more of an MP3 player to earbuds occasionally but, hey, I had the parts so why not....

The stock saddle was a big old thick squishy pillow.  Very much something of the FXR era.  It looked ok for the bike but my ass hated it.  Also scored a hinged FXR seat for it and ran that for awhile.  The hinged setup is certainly convenient and the seat was more comfortable.  But it wasn't Corbin comfortable.

Cheap $100 eBay score was too cheap to pass out.  The look is good and the ride is as one would expect.  It puts me in a perfect spot for height with the windshield (after a I took about six inches off with a jigsaw) and distance with the bars.  Just a little more hassle to occasionally check the oil.

Little more clean up and dress up from stock.  Off came the stock pulley and it's cheap looking (but FXR CVO original) chrome cover to be replaced with a better looking pulley.  The stock pulley also had a couple of wonky teeth.  So something needed to be done.

Just a nice long port side view.

And the starboard side too.

And more brake upgrade.  My old fat ass doesn't easily outride the new brakes like it could the original single puck stock pieces.

The old fashioned Screamin' Eagle small OD air cleaner cover went on awhile back along with a chrome top tree.  The FXR2 specific air cleaner cover is a larger OD.  It's saved back of course.  I always thought these smaller diameter SE covers looked better on an Evo.

Oh yeah, down under the cam cover there's a single fire ignition system too.  The cam position sensor crapped out.  So changed everything.

Just another look I like.  Might as well be thorough and self-amusing while eating up Neal's storage space.  :2vrolijk_21:

It's not a bad looking front wheel.   :2vrolijk_21:

That front crash bar was the last change that went on the bike.  Just wanted another place to rest feet since found myself riding the bike longer stretches after it go so well dialed in and running so well.

Done playing.  No one else will ever look at the old bikes!  But I've amused myself a lot  :huepfenlol2: !
