Where we're at with engine mods

I am kinda lost with all those topics in different forums about the performance upgrades.Today I saw a post about 130 hp 103 ci roadking.For gods sakes please someone post what to do with fatboys to get 110+ preferably 120 ish hp and torque in a reliable way.I dont want to blow the damn thing 5000 miles down the road hehehe.

altugo, I have been through the same thought process and have learned mostly through this website that 120hp through a 103, if you could get there would cost you a fortune. I have spent a good amount of money on the Dyno getting to 100, I thought I needed that extra 10-20...
But try this.. ride an 88, then your 103 tuned to 100hp, then ride a 113. I was amazed at how
little the difference was between the 113 and mine. It was there but not as drastic as you would
expect. After doing that I am really happy with my 103 the way it is. Just An opinion.

Agree with Tuned on this one.  I spent quite a bit of time and money to get me to 110HP (see http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1133018373 ) I'm real happy with the results I've gotten...my bike has all the power I want, for now at least... I'm not sure what else I would do next except a lot of specialized machine work or a complete engine swap to a JIMS 120. For the riding I do the bike is right for me.  95% of the folks I ride with can't pass me now if I don't want them too, but for me it's more about having the power to pass and push it when I want to [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Another thing to keep in mind is reliablity. Do you really need 120hp and as mentioned above how much is it worth it to you to squeeze that power out of your 103 and then how dependable will it be after sinking all that money in it??? Personally my bike goes as fast as I will ever need it to go and gets there as fast as I will ever need it to as well. I have no problems passing people and climbing hills packed down with a ton of gear. We always WANT more power but do we really need it? If your roads are even half as bad as the ones here in NC you won't ever even see the full potential of a bare bones stock 103 without risking loss of life. To each his own. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

for me

HTCC CNC Ported Heads w/compression releases
Matching htcc forged stroker 10.5:1 pistons
258 cams
roller rockers, forged supports and roller tappets
perfect fit pushrods and high tensile studs
SE 50mm throttle body

is way more money than I want to spend to gain 12 hp.......................but thats just me.

An educated guess until next Monday since another bike with the same build though using SE 2 into 1 pipes instead of the Thunderheaders I'm using posted 109.4.  I will definately post my results here.

But I am amazed about the recent thread that stated the [highlight]only change [/highlight]from a stock 103 build was fitting 10.5:1 SE pistons & it put out 105hp on the dyno !

Which thread.  105 with Pistons alone seems unrealistic.  Without heads, big cams and more air in and out I don't see how that could happen.

After reading your replies and discussing with a biker friend and wife I decided not to go with a major engine work.Its a hard work to do in a proper way where i live and I want the bike to be very reliable. After the break in period ill just get thunderheaders and a sert and maybe a new air intake.The main reason for this decision is
that I think you guys are right.The amount of money spent/hp and torque gain just doesnt justify and its a lot of work.
Also I havent even got the bike yet so maybe it will be enough for me just the way it already is once i ride it. [smiley=drink.gif]

Fatboyse2 thanks for your recommendation.I can get those parts ordered from the US and it usually ships within 5 days.The dealers here dont bring cvos I had to pre order the bike and put down a deposit.I think your right if I go with the way you recommend it probably wont be a very difficult job for the tech guys here they will just replace some parts with others right?That should bring the bikes power to top before any major work has to be done and thats the way i wanna keep it.Do you think it will still be covered under warranty with SE parts installed at HD dealer?Also Do I need any other parts such as air cleaner?I really like the look of this one but i dont know if its good or not.Sorry for asking too many questions but I am not god with mechanics i am pretty much clueless and there are not many SE bikes around here. Most of the riders here go for heritage or electra glide and theres not much customising or chopper style.

Altugo, if you want a good upgrade and can trust your mechanic enough to install the parts with the proper lube, locktite, torque settings and nuts and bolts then review this link, this lists the upgrades I've done which are pretty straight forward and all moco factory SE parts.

There is a close download in the Racetuner library of downloads that will make this run fine and if you can get to a motorcycle dyno then you can have them fine tune/optimize the config.
