6 speed transmissions
« on: January 01, 2008, 10:16:11 AM »

Have been searching E-bay lately and have been checking out the different 6 speeds out there.

I see a Revtec that goes for about 700 and a Accessories Unlimited for around the same price.

Any experience with any of these or any other gear sets for our bikes that will hold up?

Accessories Unlimited is very smooth and quiet. shifts like a honda. dont know how well it will hold up to mileage/abuse.

another inexpensive 6 speed that really impresses me and has GREAT customer service is TRICK SHIFT. polished for less than a grand!

I heard that the early revtech sets had gear quality issues.

Me too mikey! I'm putting a RevTech 110 Evo and 6-speed in my '85 FXWG this winter. Look at it this way, it can't be any worse than HD's 110! ;)

I always thaught the Revtec was built in Korea. If they are built in Japan....definitely a good product.

Guys,

Know of quite a few people whi purchased Rev Tech Engines & Trannies, some were not happy at all. However, most were the older series.

Search on Harley Tech Talk and V Twin Forum for more feed back.

I have always used the SE HD Six Speed and currently the Baker OD6 with no problems, the SE HD Six Speed with a Jims 120 putting out over 131 Hp amd 134TQ using a Rivera pro clutch.

Just my .02 cents,

5 grand for the RevTech Package vs. 10-12 grand for the Jims/SE package. It's worth taking a shot with the RevTech on my 23 YO bike. ;)

Hoist,

I have seen Jims 120 Engines selling in the $6,000 - $7,500 range on ebay etc.

Right now on eBay St. Paul HD in Minn. has a "Buy It Now" of $6,400 for a Silver and Chrome Evo Mount Jims 120. Which does not include the intake etc.

still in korea as far as i know. i think they have worked hard to overcome the stigma atached from the GEN 1 days when all the parts blew out the bottom of the motor. good reports these days. every now and then, custom chrome will blow em out with prices in the $4000 range to dealers.

As Red said, CCI has blowouts. $5400 for a 110" Evo, 6-speed trans, inner & outer primaries, heavy duty starter, heavy duty clutch assembly, ignition, charging sys, 45mm Mikuni w/manifold & A/C assembly. A complete drivetrain. Brand new w/MSO's. Can't beat that price with a stick! ;)

For the Buck differences I am going to try this newer REV TEC Transmission, It sure as hell can't be as bad as HD's noisy 6 speed. Plus i have talked with a few folks that has tried them and they are pleased. I may be sorry for trying, but I was crazy enough to buy a 110" screaming eagle I might as well do the REV TECH thing. I might like it.

Brian,

With all of the time, and associated $$'s, you've invested in the project, why not Baker DD6? Is it the $$$, or is there something bad about them I don't know about.

:indian_chief:

Have read some good things lately about the revtec 6 speed. I figured for the little amount of capital outlay it might not be a bad investment. I don't believe that a SE or Baker or Jims 6 speed is worth the outlay. Have said that since I put the Baker in my 04SEEG.

If I could pick a Revtec up on Ebay for around $500, that is if no one bids against me, it might be worth trying. Of course a change in the primary would be inorder :2vrolijk_21:
