Help Please - Radio interference when brakes applied
« on: August 08, 2019, 06:12:58 PM »

Guys,
I've searched and can't find anything on this. Has anyone experienced radio interference when applying the front or rear brake on a 2012 SE7 Ultra? Couple of months ago I noticed that when I used the brakes and the radio was on that I would get a hissing noise that blocks out the signal, soon as I release the brakes, all's good again. Really frustrating and not sure where to start with this, any help appreciated.

Thanks Al

Trace and check all brake electrical connections.

My guess is voltage is leaking (arcing) across terminals or connections.

Running a transistor radio or clock radio along the brake wire routes MAY localize where the short is.

Cheers,

Thanks Smoketown, I'll check and see if I can find anything. I did wonder if there was a common connection somewhere in the loom that may be at fault that would cause this...….. these gremlins are hard to trace.  :-\

thinking about this and, look in tour pack, brake light and antenna are right next to each other. may be the BL wire and antenna coax got pinched.  :nixweiss: under the seat may be another place to ck... bulbs?? those are a couple thing I would look at first

There have been reports on here, confirmed by others, of bad wheel bearings causing static.  No idea if this is the cause on yours.

On Ultras, there are two separate ground connections just behind the gas tank (have to remove seat).  One of them is designated a "clean" ground, to be used only for audio equipment; the other is for all other equipment, like charging equipment, heated gear, etc.  Someone might have made connections where they shouldn't be.
