Replacing The 660 Zumo with a 665 ON my '11 FLTRUSE
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:48:06 AM »

Want to replace my Factory 660 Zumo with a 665. Because of the weather feature and want to be able to answer call through my headset like I could in my old 550. Has anyone done this

conversion yet? Figured worse case I may be able to install a " Kennedy " module to make the BT phone stuff work. Thanks Greg

Depending on the age of your present 660 mount you can just attach the new 665 to it and it will work. Now having said that if the XM does not work when you do this then the present mount is not compatable with the 665 and you will have to replace the mount with one that is compatable with the 665. Garmin stopped making separate mounts for the 660 and 665 and they now only make one mount for both units.

Installing an H-D Bomm or a Kennedy microphone interface will take care of the phone call issue. Of course I hope you go with the H-D Bomm as I am the one who makes them but the choice is yours and they both work.

Thanks Jim...Build date on the Bike was 10-10-10, IF the mount dosen't work, just put the 665 mount on there and use everything else, no need to change harness?? Then can I just mount the antenna to that cute little bracket HD sells or slap it on top of the radio and I;m good  and I'm good?. Really wanted and excuse to pull off the fairing so I could have an nice eagle head airbrushed on ..Have a link on the Bomm, rather buy form someone that I know and will assist me if needed.....Thanks Greg

If the date on it is 10/10/10 I would suspect that the mount is compatable with the 665 as Garmin stopped making the older 660 mount about 8 months ago.

Cool... So that means that I can just drop the 665 on the mount, mount the antenna, run the wire up the bar and I'm good to go and with the Bomm I have bluetooth phone right through my helmet headset. Correct?

Sorry I did not give the answer here, I spoke to to him on the phone. You can purchase either the Road Tech or the Zumo however if you want to use the Harley Navigation Module you will need the Road Tech.

Hold everything. Are you saying that I can't use the headset to answer a phone call via Bluetooth?  That just doesn't make sense.  :nixweiss:    So what good is this technology if you can't do this simple task?   :confused5:

I'll have a Roadtech 660 (came with my 11) for sale in a couple of weeks.

You can only use the headset to talk via Bluetooth if your headset is Bluetooth. If it is wired you can not talk via the Bluetooth connection between the Zumo and your phone as there is no physical connection between the helmet microphone and the microphone input on the Zumo. You need a helmet microphone interface like the H-D Bomm or cellset.

So I see that I'll need to get a BOMM if I purchase a 660...Does the 665 need that interface also or does it allow you to talk through your helmet mic?

They both work the same way, so you would need it whether you get the 660 or 665

Ok, I finally pulled the fairing today to hook up the XM antenna from my 665.  Plugged it in and got the message "UPGRADE XM TUNER".  I think it's a no-go
