Ticking noise coming from rear speakers on 2013 SERG
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:26:18 PM »

Out riding today and all of a sudden I get a ticking noise coming from both rear speakers.  Turn radio off, still ticking, turn bike off with ignition on, still ticking.  Music still coming out of speakers along with ticking.  Nothing wrong with front speakers.

I turn ignition back on 20 minutes and everything back to normal, no ticking at all.

Any one heard of this?  Going to look over connections.
Thanks,
Corey

Has it stopped ticking at all?

Mine only did it for about 30 minutes.  Now it's back to normal.

Please keep me updated.

Thanks,
Corey

i've only had mine a short while (<200 miles) but it did that once.  i started it, and it was ticking.  i shut it off and restarted and it was fine.

if you're dealer is able to recreate the problem and offer a fix, let the rest of us know.

Went to the dealer today and they believe it is the AMP located in the right saddlebag. We opened the bag and the AMP had slid down from the mounting spot, very poor design!! They had a 2012 that had the same issue and had the new AMP that they will be installing it Monday. If this fixes the issue they will order me a new AMP. I'll let you know but I have doubts!!  :(

I'll be checking the amp to see if it has come loose.  Thanks for the info.

I believe there is at least one other thread around here that talks about the lovely method Harley used to "secure" the amp in the saddlebag, and I seem to remember one post where the amp actually rubbed a small hole in the plastic of the bag.  Everyone with one of these amps might want to take a hard look at the mounting of that amp.  If Harley doesn't plan to do it right, it will obviously be up to each customer to fix Harley's mistake.

The bracket that's taped to the saddlebag that holds the amp had came loose on mine.  It wasn't flopping around but it wasn't secured either.  I used better 3M double sided tape and stuck it back in there.  We'll see if that work better.  All the wires looked good so not sure if that was my ticking problem.

Getting the amp back into the bracket is a PIA.  There's two small nubs on the bottom of the amp that need to fit into the bracket.  It's dark in the bottom corner of the saddlebag and not much room.  So be patient.

Corey

Went by the Harley store this weekend to see if they had fixed the issue on the other bike.

Service Manager said the iPOD interface box was replaced and it seems to be fixed, he ordered one for my bike but is on backorder for 3 weeks!!

UGH!!!!!

Mine started ticking again then stopped.  And the amp is loose again.  Heading to SD Friday.   It will have to wait.
Thanks for the info.
