Handle Bars
« on: November 05, 2009, 11:15:32 AM »

Has anyone tried to replace their bars with something a little taller? These drag bars look great, but man, they sure can be uncomfortable. I'd love to find a set that would position the grips back another 2", but not any wider. Just enough to make a difference in sitting more upright, but not too much that would require new cables/wiring. I just can't find any cross reference for a 1-1/4" bar that uses the stock SED bar for the baseline to compare.

Anyone blaze this path before?

I have been wanting the SAME thing!! I dont think we can get away from new cabling and wiring unless there is that much slack internally. Let me know what you find out!

I'm pretty well stumped on this one. The stealer told me that they have a few custom options, but that would entail sending my bar off to compare. The new one would be a custom - Naturally at custom pricing. He said the last one was about $500.  I'm not sure I'm that interested.   :nixweiss:

I was looking at these a while back. The ones at the bottom (136, 137) have 1 1/4" base, which is what the dealer said we need for our setups. 137 might give the pull back we are looking for wtihout changing the look too much. Any taller and it would look funny I think without changing the risers. Would also lose the tachometer since its built into the risers.

I didnt price them.

Interesting. it does look like the 138 is close to the contours of our current bars. And, it does look like the 137 looks ideal. I think those would work without losing the tach, as it's built onto the clamps?

Yeah the mount that the tach sits in is part of the risers. Isnt yours the same?

The tach mount is not part of the riser, It is part of the upper bar clamps. If you don't mind losing your tach, all you have to do is buy regular upper  bar clamp halves for the stock riser. :2vrolijk_21:

The riser and the upper clamp (& tach) should have no bearing on the handle bars? Provided of course that the bar is the same diameter.

Thats right, I Think as Friscoraydogg stated previously, The main problem would cables, hydraulic lines, and internal wires. :nervous:
