what does everyone suggest to use on chrome to shine and protect? any suggestions on removing blueing from pipes? thx

I use a product called MASS on the chrome. Stuff works great. If you use xxx (super fine) steel wool with a little mass on your piupes, the blueing should come out. THE MUFFMAN

And you use 4 0 steel wool to remove bluing ?

I'll check the tin tonight and let you know Friday. I had a heck of a time getting it up here in Canada. It is made in the States. At One of the Rallies I went to one of the people in the hotel had some with them. Tried it & had to get it. THE MUFFMAN

I found a little trick to making sure you chrome is really clean the other day...
When you have completed the detail, take a flashlight and shine it in the shiny parts...
You won't believe all the spots that you just wiped are still covered in residue and need to be wiped down further!
After you complete the flashlight process, the chrome will come up much brighter!!!

I recommend Glare Polish. That's the best Chit in the world. ;D
But seriously, Maas is great polish, but be careful--it's pretty aggressive.
I've use 4-0 steel wool on chrome to remove melted shoe sole material, but I didn't know it would remove blueing. Of course, I haven't battled blued pipes in some time now. Full coverage heat shields takes that concern off the table.

Hey Murphy....you are so right here! And it's not just for Chrome, but when polishing the whole scooter......take a shop light and shine it right on the places you think are polished well and you will see all kind of stuff that you haven't really gotten clean.......the only way to really get a good clean finish is with a bright light on it. Just more 'anal' .. :-[.... har! spyder

Wash with soap n water, rinse, dry...Carefully wipe down with solvent, dry and polish with wenol blue or similar non-abrasive plated metal polish/sealer once a year...WD40 wipes inbetween to get grime off. Just my way, I don't think there is a wrong way.

That's all good too......I did read a lengthy article one time about how chrome is really a 'porous' coating that needs to 'breathe' and therefore it is best to leave it w/o any polish or coating of any kind after cleaning it. Much more to it, but that was the bottom line take away. ;) har! spyder

I'm sure you read my Glare opinion, but their whole line seems to surpass most peoples expectations. At my buddy's shop they use the knock out to remove mild blueing, and the polish to seal and prevent it! Its pretty intense product!

I've used that MAAS polish before. Similar to Simichrome, but not as rough as NEV-R-DULL. Back when my oil filler cap was popping out, I cleaned off the burned oil from the mufflers with an SOS pad. The mufflers are starting to show some wear, but they still look decent...........so I'll run 'em till they quit. I have learned that the more aggressive the chrome cleaners are, the more road grime sticks to the mufflers.........which leads to more agressive cleaning. Viscious cycle. I can't figure a better way to get them clean tho'.........which makes me wonder about the quality of the chrome on the rush mufflers. :nixweiss:

I use windex spray or foam on my chrome and find it works quite well spray it on a soft cloth and just rub it like you would remove spots from glass . Harley chrome is not real deep and i have noticed using a chrome polish tends to remove the finish after a while. Also I use Easy Off cold oven cleaner on the boot marks on my pipes. I put it on in the evening and remove it in the morning works great....

Windex for touch ups, Mothers chrome cleaner when it really needs cleaning. As for the pipes, you'd be better off getting pipes with a heat shield where so you can't see the inner pipe.

Mothers chrome polish on the chrome parts...goes on easy..comes off easy....and leaves chrome looking great, As for blueing, I dont have a lot of experience trying to remove it....I have a set of upswept fishtails on my softail from Paucho, straight pipes. They blued soon after putting them on. I got a set of late model heat sheilds from a Fatboy. installed and covered up bluing :orange:

Blue magic on the aluminium and chrome works for me and I carry the old rag use to buff it off in my pocket for those little on the road touch ups. :drink: :drink: :drink:

We are hopeing that you will discontinue doing your 'touch ups' while on the road, Ride n Shine.... :o.....rather, pull off and get off before buffing the chrome......either that or this OCD could bring you a early demise. :'( :drink: Ride safe :) har! spyder

I had some burnt on bugs and some burnt rubber on the pipes on my Street Glide and went to the dealer to see if they had Mother's. They didn't have that stuff but highly recommended what they used in the shop. It's call Blue Job http://www.blue-job.com/ (http://www.blue-job.com/). It comes as a powder and all you do is dip a wet cloth into the power and then create a paste on the marred spot on the chrome. This chit is impressive!!! I have never seen something work this good. According to the container it states it will not scratch or dull chrome. It's for bluing, burnt on shoe rubber, golds, rust, fingerprints etc. I couldn't believe how great this stuff works. It's not cheap though. Cost $14 for .5 oz tin of the stuff. But it doesn't take much for it to work. Highly recommend this stuff. It's made by a company called Glass Restoration Specialists out of Tacoma, WA.
