Heated Grips
« on: January 21, 2016, 01:30:27 AM »

My brother still hasn't been able to take delivery of his 2016 CVO Street Glide because they are having trouble installing the heated grips as he requested. He thought the bike came with heated grips standard because of a typo in the Harley Davidson hard copy literature that he was supplied. When they were not included on the stock CVO he asked that they be added. When asked what style he desired he requested something similar to the original design style supplied on the bike. The dealer has received two sets that did not function properly and now states that a Harley technician is arriving tomorrow - or calling - they were very unclear about his actual presence?

I was wondering if anybody else has had issues with heated grips on their Street Glide CVO's? I am becoming afraid my brother has opened a can of "electrical worms" before he has even ridden this bike.

I suggest someone might be blowing smoke up your brother's posterior.  There is nothing about a 2016 SESG that would make installing heated grips difficult, assuming the person doing the install was even reasonably competent.  And yes, people on this site have had heated grips installed on their 2016 SESG's.  It can be done by purchasing a kit from the accessory catalog, or by purchasing the production parts used on the CVO Limited.  The SESG already has the same front wiring harness as the Limited btw, so it isn't necessary to run wires all over the place as indicated in the instructions for those kits in the catalog.  The connections can be made to the existing connector up near the steering head area, just like on the Limited.

Jerry is correct, tell your brother to find another dealer. The one he is using is not competent to work on his bike.

I did this install on my '15 CVO Streetglide the hardest part was running the wire in the handle bars. Everything is there already on the bike the wiring harness is the same as the CVO Limited and the grips are also the same.  Here's the part numbers from New Castle Harley uses in front followed by the Harley numbers:

1×   56100097A   HD-56100097A   $258.55   $258.55
1×   56100094   HD-56100094   $11.11   $11.11
1×   56100096   HD-56100096   $102.31   $102.31

Unfortunately, I accepted the bike immediately on delivery because the heated grips worked and found out later that night that there was a blemish on the tank. Now I don't know what to do?

Hopefully you called the service department as soon as you noticed the blemish on the tank.  What did they say?  They should make it right.

Hopefully they take care of that for you. My inner fairing suffered some small damage while the bars were getting put on, and they ordered me a new one. I would be trying to get a new tank.

Get some clear coat and use a toothpick and just apply a little bit, then wait a day or two and apply a little bit more then wait a week or so and take it to the dealer and have their detail person buff it out you'll most likely never see again.

Make sure they know that it has to be an absolutely perfect repair. I would try to get them to replace rather than repair. With the prices we pay we are entitled to expect perfection.
