Upgrading the stereo on my 1995 FLHT
« on: April 04, 2007, 03:14:22 AM »

Hello to all, I'm new here and have posted in the new members forum to introduce myself.
I have a 1995 FLHT that I want to upgrade the stereo system on, I have done some research and this is what I have in mind.
Speakers: Polk 4" db400's.
Adapter for stereo: Biketronics adapter for 1995 FLHT, I'll have to fabricate a weather proof cover for the receiver.
Stereo Receiver: Sony MEX-1GP, satellite radio ready.
I may go with a satellite radio and there is my problem and indecision.
I don't know weather to go with the SIRIUS SIR-SNY1 which I can actually mount on top of the receiver with Velcro and connect a small 12 volt computer fan (controlled by a switch) to blow across it inside of the fairing.
Or go with the SIRIUS Starmate 4 which can be mounted on the handlebar with a bracket, exposed to the weather.
I'm leaning toward the SIRIUS SIR-SNY1 which would be a much cleaner install.
Let me know what you think, thank you in advance.

Personal choice of course.  But unless tranportability of the radio to another vehicle or other listening place is required I'd mount it all inside the fairing.  Clean looking install is a better install.

Thank you for the reply Twolanerider, I have no plans for transportability as the less time I spend in a 4 wheel cage the  better. ;D
As a matter of fact I really hate 4 wheel vehicles, the worst injury I ever had was in a car, a broken neck in two places :stars: ,I'm lucky I wasn't paralyzed from the neck down the doc told me.
I had to wear a Halo for 4 months, it was no picnic, I still have the scars from the bolts that were attached to my forehead.

I had to wear a Halo for 4 months,

That does not sound like a clean looking installation  :drink:
