I actually use that plug a lot Howie.  It's attached to a pre-existing hole through the plate in that hole just in front of the battery.  Little short pigtail back to the battery and that's it for connections.  No separate connections for battery tender or anything else. 

It's not a lighter plug though (pretty sure they had them if that's what you'd be after).  I chose the BMW type plug for its universality.  Adapators for everything using that plug.  It's proved to be real handy.

Repair appears to be holding up quite well, so I'll leave it alone and check on it every now and then.  Since the lighter is no longer powered, at least the melting challenge is no longer a threat.
