Daymakers on 2014's are different.
« on: September 25, 2013, 09:18:05 AM »

Anyone notice the differences in the Daymakers you buy off the Harley shelf as those that come on the 2014 bikes?

The upper headlight internal lenses are larger than the standard Daymaker and the three clear lens openings on the passing lamps are twice as thick (wide).

The part numbers are different too.

2014 passing lamps are 68000020 at 253.17 list each.

2014 headlight are 67700066 at 501.78 list each.

I wonder if the output is higher ?? :nixweiss:

Headlight is $364 at Newcastle. Does this plug and play on my '12?  :nixweiss:

Here are the new Daymaker Reflector LED Headlamps.  It looks like a total redesign.  I guess they put the leftovers of the old design on the new bikes.  http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/daymaker-reflector-led-headlamp-pa-11-67700189--1  The new ones are cheaper too (less expensive that is).  I wonder if they throw more light.

That looks like a prettied up version of the Trucklight 7.  The "old" projector beam light is still listed.  You get what you pay for (pretty much).

1abastarsmda,

So now it appears as though there are three generations of the Harley Daymaker lamps.

(1)  The originial off the shelf Daymakers.
(2)  The ones now supplied on the 2014 Limited and CVO Limited. (which are different than the above)
(3)  The new refelector ones you just pointed out.

Are the lights that come standard on the 2014's all the same...

Ultra vs. Limited vs. CVO Limited?   :nixweiss:

One would think that the CVO version would have a better light as a standard feature after spending so much extra for the bike, but you never know???

If you guys haven't realized it yet, starting with 2014 Harley Davidson Motorcycles are getting cheaper, more plastic and less traditional.
The bean-counters are in control and are attempting to return the company to profitability.  Looks at all the hinges and hardware that are now plastic.  Look at the removal of stereo systems and accessories like lowers.
They even made an integrated stereo that cannot be swapped out, so you have to do Harley sound upgrades.  It is all a bunch of BS to make higher margins.

We have seen the last of the BEST BIKES from MOCO, unless we don't buy these budget bikes.

Looking at the online P&A shows three different 7" LED bulbs. They are essentially the "old style" direct focused "projector" design and the "new style" reflector design (which looks just like the TruckLite).

The complicating issue is that they apparently also changed something about the mounting of the light for '14 touring bikes, so the pre-14 lights won't fit.
#67700189: The new style reflector lamp that comes on a 2014 touring bike; can't be moved to a '13 batwing...but it CAN be used in Softail models that don't have the nacelle.

#67700173: This is the retro-fit version of the new style reflector lamp for use in pre-14 touring and Softails WITH the nacelle

#73390-10A: The old style projector LED fits pre-14 touring and Softails with the nacelle.

Don't buy based on this, verify...before you buy

Good advice.

The LED on the new touring bikes is still the projector style, updated from the previous P&A version with a new plug, at least.

The reflector style (the one that looks like a trucklite P7) is currently not stock on any bike, and is a new product for the P&A book.

You are correct, I was going by the application listings for the lights but the lamp that is factory on the '14 is the "old style" projector. If the application info in the P&A means anything, it's that the lamp in the '14 must be a different number and probably wouldn't fit a '13 touring.

I can't verify the part number for it, but the O.P. shows it as 67700066

Yeah, I just listed the retail for them.  Found them even a little cheaper than your link.  Same light as the Truck Lite but with more chrome inside of the body.

I came off an 11 Road Glide Ultra that I put the Daymakers on and I find the stock LED Daymaker on the 14 CVO disappointing.  I have to keep telling myself that the RGU had two headlights and not just one.

The Stock  lights on the 2014 bikes are not as bright as the  Daymakers in the Parts and Accessories book. The Aux lights on the 2014 Bikes  are 20 watt, and the Aus in the Accessory Catalogue  are 24 Watt.
I will have difference in the wattage  for the 7"  Headlights tomorrow.

I purchased one to go on a 2012 SG and the wiring is different.  There is no pigtail, just a slot to plug in a 4 pin AMP style connector.

I  had  07 and install new LED 2 years ago great light. But the Bright were not that much better than low beam only but still great improvement over stock. Now I have a 14 SERK with Standard LED and the bright beam is great must go 10 feet higher and much further down the road. Great improvement. Billy

I have heard the original Daymaker put out a very narrow band of light?
Do you think the Reflector version would put out a wider band of light?

My 2014 is definitely brighter and a larger band in high beam. Rode a loaner home with the old halogen  bulbs . Wow what a difference. Should be illegal to sell Halogen when LED are so much safer. Billy
