Has anyone tried upgrading their IPod to a newer nano or touch? I'm curious if they controls on the handle bars will work with a newer IPod. Pretty sure this requires ans adapter to go to the lighting connector on the newer IPods.

I've always used my ipod touch on my bike, no issues there.  If you are getting a brand new ipod you may need to get a 30 pin to 8 pin converter depending on which one you buy.

i have heard that the 30 pin to lightning adapters that you can get pretty cheaply on amazon work just fine with the 'new' ipods.  no loss of functionality with the handlebar controls.

Hi there

I've got a 5th generation Nano and it works perfectly.

Not wanting to hijack this thread but do most folks just leave their iPod plugged in? Or remove it after the ride?

Cheers

the only time that i ever remove mine is if i want to change some of the music on it.  otherwise, it just sits zipped up in the saddlebag pouch.

If you don't start your bike for a while once you do it will take about 5 to10 min for the ipod to charge up to turn on.

So I purchased a 5th generation IPod and it sync'd with my Ipad perfectly. Do I need to create a playlist for it? Is there something I have to set up on it to make it automatically start play inning when it is in the dock on the saddlebag lid? Sorry for all the questions but I guess I'm and electronic Dufus.

Not sure if this is what you're asking, but:  On my '08 and '11 CVOs, they always start up using the same input that was in use when I shut it off; i.e., if it was on XM, that's where it starts.  Does yours require you to cycle through all the inputs and back to the iPod to restart it?

My bike does that too. I wasn't,t sure if I had to create a new playlist on the IPod touch. After messing with it for a while I found the playlist's I create we're automatically downloaded tithe new Touch. Looks like I'm ready to go,just need some warm weather. Heck I'd ride it now if if the roads weren't covered in snow and salt. Thanks for your input

The 5th generation seems to work just fine once I figured the playlist out

i've never had to wait.  but then again, i've never let my bike sit more than 2 weeks at a time.

i think mine has been out of my saddlebag twice in the last year :D  it should be charging all the while your bike is on.  i've never seen mine less than 95% charged, even after a full day of riding.
