If you don't start your bike for a while once you do it will take about 5 to10 min for the ipod to charge up to turn on.

i've never had to wait. but then again, i've never let my bike sit more than 2 weeks at a time.

i think mine has been out of my saddlebag twice in the last year

it should be charging all the while your bike is on. i've never seen mine less than 95% charged, even after a full day of riding.
