Audio Speaker Failure
« on: October 05, 2014, 09:30:42 AM »

Hi,

Does any one have a likely cause to the following Audio problems I have with my 2012 CVO Street Glide. The head unit is working fine including radio,CD Player, IPod. Problem is no sound coming through the speakers? I have had a basic check looking for loose connections etc but nothing found. The whole of the speaker system is down including both front & back. Any help would be appreciated, before I have to go to the dealer etc.

Thanks. :(

Had same issue with my SG12, it end up changing HK under warranty due to outpot channels burned out as stated by the dealer

Good luck

Your HK head unit is shot.  either send it to Iron Cross audio to be fixed ($250) or ditch it for a Sony MEX-N5000BT.  you'll be much happier with the Sony...

Explanation...the vibration starts to crack the circuit board n the stock radio until it breaks the circuit.  that has to be replaced (Iron Cross).  happens to about 75% of these crap units.

Sorry for my ignorance but when you refer to the HK Unit you mean the radio / CD Player unit in the fairing?. If so do I as you suggest just remove the whole unit & replace with another? Or is it more complicated than that !! :-*

Yes, HK refers to Harmon Kardon. Just replace it...IMHO...

That's really funny because I just had the exact same issue and for me I just toggled the speaker switch on my Ultra and the sound started working again!  It was a short in the connection to the speaker switch. Don't know if this is your issue but it was a pretty easy fix.

Maybe you are not going fast enough. :nixweiss: Lol.

Saying that I am now at over 92 000km. That's a lot of vibration.

Clear indication that the dealer has not addressed the issue and just exchanges the radio.
Too many times a failed radio is just a symptom of another problem.

Question ?

Can I replace the HK Head unit with a decent aftermarket unit, that will we weather resistant, and compatible ie fitment wise into the fairing and be up to the job.

Looking at the response there seems a real problem with the head units. My bike is over 2 years old March 2012, out of warranty, so do not want to have to replace with another duff HD Unit if possible?

Any recomendations or advice would be appreciated, before I go spending more money. Can't live without the music ... 8)

can you elaborate? I'm having this issue exactly. Did you just replace the switch?
