2014 question: IPod or Iphone best for your tunes
« on: November 16, 2013, 10:47:30 AM »

As we all know the 2014 touring bikes are setup to plug in a IPod or IPhone. I am more interested in tunes, downloading tunes onto the devise and playing them on the bike. Leaning toward the IPhone, killing two birds with one stone, as they say. I would assume that you could access the stored music on the IPhone the same as accessing the music on an IPod?

Am I correct? Those with experience in this area, I really appreciate the input

Thank you

You are correct. The iPod touch is the same as the phone less the actual phone

I have/am using both for music on the bike.

I use both.  The iphone syncs up blue tooth and works great. the ipod classic 140gig plugs into the usb and 20,582 song are indexed and ready to go!  SWEET!

I use a thumb drive hooked up to the usb cable for tunes, and it works great.   I just leave it there plus you can also use it for firmware upgrades and gps uploads.   I plug the phone into the cigarette lighter plug in the tourpak and connect it via Bluetooth.

The problem with the Classis, or any other "Hard Drive" based media is that they are prone to skipping / damage.  There is an actual hard drive in there versus the solid state memory like is present on the iphone, or other usb type media.

Would the IPhone plug into the USB in the dash and work for both music and phone? The same as a IPod but without the phone. I was thinking that if I purchased the IPhone I would have one tool that would cover all the bases? is that correct?

Thanks again for all the input

yes that would work and the USB charges the iphone as well.

Great, thank you. Why bring two devices if one will get the job done.

Changed my mind; decided to go with a new Samsung 4 phone ( found a screaming deal thru Costco, don't need anything real fancy plus already using android ), will keep in the tour pak. Easier to access IMHO ( installed the new tour pak wall organizer, gives me a pouch next to the power source ) and buy a media devise that I can leave hooked-up, up front next to the Boom Box. I don't want to worry about removing every time I stop, simply wish to hook-up and leave.

Now the question is; go simply with a thumb drive, iPod shuttle or iPod Nano? don't care about using to watch videos, not looking for a camera or to play games, don't really need Bluetooth either. Just want a good product that will hold music for those times I wish to access using the bikes Boom Box. Must work well with the new 2014 bikes. As I said, will just leave plugged in to the USB cord next to the Boom Box up front.

Any recommendations?

Thank you,
Scott

went with a new iPod Nano; works real well with iTunes. Will have the iPod up front and my Android phone in the tour pak. Boy, are times ever different. I remember thinking how terrible it was when a rider even carried a cell phone, who needed a windshield let alone a radio. Guess I'm getting older cuz I enjoy the tunes going down the road.
