I'm paranoid about damaging the KTP paint, so I remove my watch, ring, and belt to avoid accidental damage when lifting/installing/removing the KTP.  Until you get proficient installing and removing the tour pak, you may want to cover the fender and leave the saddlebag lids open to avoid scratching fender and/or lid paint.

I don't recall if the tour pak lock cylinder and parts come with instructions, but there are good instructions and pictures in the Service Manual.
