Any Scraping on CVO Street Glide?
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:02:42 AM »

I am new to Harley and new to the the board here...just bought a 2010 CVO Street Glide....blue was my preference.....just curious about if there has been any scraping issues with floor boards or the saddle bags in the turns that is common and if so are there any parts you can add to protect the bike any?

Well, not by me...
What did you ride before? I am certain that skilled riders with sporting backgrounds could grind the floorboards without great effort. I think the bags are safe. But, doing so kind of defeats the whole point of riding a SESG. "Horses for courses" as they say.

I've scraped my floorboards more than a few times and I know a couple others here in Nor Cal have to.  But that is going to be a very aggressive rider.  I'd guess that 90-95% will never scrape :nixweiss:

It's the floorboards that scrape, haven't scraped the bags.  You may if you're riding hard and two up and hit a dip in a curve. :nixweiss:

With the new chassis, bigger wheels, etc. these bikes are handling very well compared to those just a few years ago. :2vrolijk_21:

That is the reason the bottom rear of the saddle bags have a metal guard already on them, the floor boards will tilt up if you scrap them. I have always been a sharp leaner into the curves & All my friends were concerned that I would scraping the hell out of this bike, I have not so far but sure I can if i wanted to.

Scrapped the boards a bit riding the Tail of the Dragon in Deals Gap last month, but then that's what you do on the Dragon. Bike handled and behaved amazingly well.  Did grind away about 1/3 of the gremlin bell hanging below the right floorboard.:D Have never scrapped the bags, unless you count the one tipover when my foot slipped on sand at a stop light. Bag rested on the steel plate underneath with no damage. Considered myself pretty lucky so I did put the bag guards on a couple weeks later.

When I scrape, I know I am riding her right!  Have only scraped the arms for the floorboards though, have only scraped the bags once.

Hi Ryan,

in left turns you will scrape the jiffy, in right turns it's the floorboards support, not the floorboard itself.

Never managed to hurt the saddlebags, might happen eventually on uneven roads.

Right side: saddlebags and floorboards
Left side: saddlebags, cross-over exhaust pipe, floorboards, kick stand.
Don't ask how I found this out!
Wasn't my bike, and I got into trouble! nothing that $$$$ and apologies can't fix!
