Title: High speed woble
Post by: 1roadking on June 04, 2018, 02:59:22 PM
I had my shocks changed from 12 to 13 inch Legend Revo A's and installed the Axeo front end kit over the winter. So far, I am very happy with the results, but I have a high speed wobble in turns that feels like the front end is loose or lifting. I had my steering head bearings adjusted at about 1000 miles for the same symptom and it seemed to help, now i'm at 8500 miles. My tire pressures are good, sag it set correctly and I have the rear shocks set at 4 for rebound damping. It feels like the slightest touch of the bars causes an overly quick response. I ordered a klock works 8.5 shield to see if that will help because it feels like the front end is lifting. I noticed my issue with the front end wobble was magnified when I added the 9 inch freedom shield, but improved when the steering head bearings where tightened. It has never felt as stable at high speed with the Freedom shield as it did with the stock CVO windvest. Any other ideas?

I've tried every type windshield over the years and non of them had ANY effect on handling in any way. Check mechanical stuff. Maybe your head needs adjustment again, per your numbers you have driven it 7500 miles since it was serviced and who knows if the minimum wage tech did it correctly or not? Surely whoever installed the Axeo stuff checked the head? But maybe not.

Changed front and rear tires, put on the Klock works screan and loosened my grip on the bars. It feels a lot better now!

Tires can make a big difference whether they be mismatched, worn, etc

Tighten the shocks and make them more stiff.  My bike was like that in the beginning and I tightened them and that wobble went away immediately.

My buddy just picked up an 18 Road King.  Same issue.  He couldnt run 75 mph without that wobble. We cranked up the tension on the shocks, problem resolved.

I find sag is the biggest problem in terms of wobble if not set properly.  :o

My sag was good, new 13 inch Legends Revo A shocks set at 12 inches of sag with me on it. I also have Legends Axeo cartridges in the front.

If you still have a it at higher speed  change your forks oil too a 15w medium heavy.
I had an uncomfortable wobble at higher speed just as it was hitting up into 80. I changed out my forks fluid to a 15w medium heavy and now I can hit 90 and 100 with no steering issues.

When you changed your rear shocks to 13's you changed the front geometry, you reduced the trail angle of the front end which improve corning
(especially low speed) and reduce high speed stability.
After you changed the shocks did you notice better corning ability?

my wobble was wheel balance.

This wasn’t a balance issue but an actual gyrationof the bike like it was hinged in the middle, not a good feeling at 90 to 100 MPH. It felt fine in a straight line just high speed long curves where a problem but at 100mph my ass was puckering lmao🤓

Did you resolve the issue?

Yes, for the most part. I put on new tires, changed windshields to a Klockwerks and upped my rear shock damping. I’m having the drivetrain aligned in the chassis, steering head bearings checked and having the front and rear wheel alignment checked as well. I like to ride hard and want it perfect!

I am having a similar issue w my 19 RG CVO. Hard to explain but the OP did a good job. 1300 miles. So far changed out front tire, checked steering head and belt tightness. Bike also pulls a little left.
