Title: 2016 CVO streetglide radio keeps reading USB issue
Post by: C130loady on December 26, 2019, 07:33:23 PM
Any ideas on what would cause the radio to always show reading usb when playing music from USB?  I swapped out thumb drive with different one and still get reading usb on radio after about 2 minutes after starting bike. Thanks in advance.

Not certain, but when using a USB drive on most audio systems for the first time the system reads all the data to catalog/index what is on the drive.  Once it has done that on a particular drive, it shouldn't be necessary to go through the entire process again, it will just check for any changes since the last time you plugged in that drive.  Depending on the capacity of your drive (check your documentation and make sure the drive is compatible with the system), it may take more than a couple minutes to index the contents.  Be patient and see if it doesn't eventually tell you the indexing is complete.

My 2015 Streetglide did that same thing. I used a 3 port usb hub to keep my genres of music separated. Every once in a while, one of my flash drives would start that crap. It was random though. I would press the home button and select media and then choose a different flash drive from the menu. Then repeat to go back to what I was listening to before. Pain? Yes. But it removed that annoying "........reading usb......"

By the way, the Boom Box stereo will only recognize a maximum of (3) different flash drives in a hub no matter how many you you try to use. Ask me how I know....

How Big is the memory stick in GB?   Might check to see if there is a size limitation.

In my experience the only format that the radio will read is MS-DOS (FAT32). Trying reformatting the memory stick with this format.

Thanks. for help.  I have already replaced the thumb drive. with another 16 GB.  That seemed to work when installed the first time.  The next day it started doing same thing on a short 15 minute ride. It never stopped reading the thumb drive.

I guess i will open fairing up and check for loose connection from from usb port to stereo itself.  Ill update if it works.

Thanks Again.

ok while troubleshooting I found that if I unplug USB and plug it back in with ignition on it works fine.  If I turn bike off and turn back on it gets stuck on reading USB again.    annoying more than anything.  anyway to fix this?

Thanks for ideas and help.

On my 2014 Street Glide I found that if I turned the run switch on & waited around 15 to 30 seconds before I started the bike it didn't always search forever, Radio worked fine just annoying.

I let bike set in accessory for 45 minutes and it never stopped reading usb.  I'll try the wait 30 secs and see what happens.  Thanks.
