Title: Lower Fairing install
Post by: LarryB on December 24, 2008, 03:47:42 PM
Does anyone have an exploded view of how the top of the lower fairing hooks up to the engine guard on a SERG?
I have the quick (ya right) hardware and something just doesn't seem correct. :-X Quick release should also mean EZ and I'm an idiot.

The FLHT style fairing lower uses a U-Bolt at the top, the FLTR uses a single 1/4” fastener. I believe that the quick disconnect kit may not work with the FLTR style lowers.

seems the top connection uses the cap to mount on the FLH but cant do it on the FLT, bottom is fine. Im sure I can rig it but there's got to be a better way.
thanks.
I was hoping someone could take a picture of their SERG w lowers at the connection spot

This should help.

Maybe I could get someone to zoom up here and help me clean this thing up. :)

Not any more.  No U-bolt on the 09 Street Glide leg fairings (like my 04 SEEG has)......it's entirely different.  Not sure when they changed that. :nixweiss:

Must've been when the change to vented lowers happened with the 05s JC.  There's no U-bolt mount on the red bike.  Couple of captured studs in the fairing caps go through holes in the lowers and are pulled together with nuts accessed in the storage pocket.

djkak's picture should help. I scratched my head for 1/2 hour looking at the exploded view until I finally figured out how the "U" shaped bolt fit in the picture. Once you figure that part out the rest is simple. Good Luck

after scratching my , bald, head, i figured that if I drill and tap the the rear portion of the mounting bracket, I can thread a bolt and washer through the back of the fairing, and fab up a thumb type nut. but will wait till glove boxes arrive to insure it will work.
