2011 SEUC erratic clutch action
« on: July 22, 2019, 10:41:48 AM »

2011 SEUC 50K miles   I replaced Clutch with SE clutch plates  Aside from the expected grabiness all worked well for a bit  I then started experiencing erratic clutch engagement   It will sometimes act as it should with normal smooth engagement. Then it will change to nearly all the way out and grab hard and fast  Then back to normal.  When it engages late and away from the grip I can hear an audible squeal.  I can feel feedback when it squeals but cannot determine origin of the noise.  I have disassembled the clutch pack. I found no warped plates or grooves in the clutch hub.  All bearings are smooth, tight and quiet.  I have flushed the fluid and re-bled the hydraulic system.  The compensator was upgraded under warranty 20k ago. No excess metal in primary fluid.  any thoughts??

My initial thought was the hyd. fluid but that has been changed.

What type of fluid do you have in the primary?

HD Formula plus   My though was fluid as well.  Hence the change.  Because of the different engagement point I thought maybe the slave was hanging up, so I did a fluid flush and bleed   My next place would be maybe the master cylinder   A note, upon the second teardown ,I felt the throw-out bearing was a little sloppy so it has been replaced as well

Start with the easy stuff like changing the fluid, it made a big difference on my bike.

Throwing some WAGs here: Pressure plate (sticking/warped), master cylinder and/or slave cylinder sticking or internal bypass?
