Do you have to drill a hole in your saddlebag for this item, if you put it in the fairing do you have to take it apart? and is that easy or something that needs to go to the dealer?
Sorry about so many questions.

Heavy that's what were all here for bro.....to help each other out.  As I understand it, the fairing comes off with the three windshield screws and then four more......five minutes and it's off.

A service manuel from the dealership, while expensive, is money well spent.

Personally, I'm going to have the dealership do mine, when they install my oil temp. guage and all the other stuff that I'm getting done.

Oh...and I have a shorty antenna (about 12") from Advance Auto Parts, as I mentioned earlier.  I hadn't really experimented with it at that time.  It works great both AM/FM/WB all in all.  I'm very happy with it, until I hear about the internal antenna working great.  Then it's another $90.  Darn it all.....

JCZ,

Is your SEEG in yet?  Hope so...........

Re: the Dakota hidden antenna, are you going to have Sacto H-D install it for you on the SEEG?  I'm really interested to know if it works okay?

Thanks,

Picking mine up tomorrow.  I ordered the polished stainless steel leg fairing vents last night, too.  I'll get them put on at my 1000 mile service on the 18th, along with my exhaust, air cleaner and race tuner and hopefully the oil temp guage.

Well..............I am not impressed with the dakota antenna.  It works but not as good as the real antenna.  The stations will sometimes fade out.  I even opened up my fairing and moved it but it did not seem to help...will keep you posted. I am going to move it again...it says to keep it away from other metal...thats hard to do... :-/

I want this to work and will find a solution ;)

The hidden antenna works fine.  I was up in the foothills and the mountains today and I feel that it worked just as well, if not better than the stock antenna on my two Ultra Classics.

Has anyone installed the antenna themselves. The directions are to tap into the power lead on the radio for the power on the antenna. I have had the fairing off, and looked, The wiring diagram in the manuals are not for the FLHTCSE system, the closest is the FLHT/Radio/CD/CB set up. Before I went pulling the connector off and playing hunt with a multimeter I thought I would ask to see if anyone knew which one was the power lead. All wires are colored plus a stripe. Not real obvious.  [smiley=confused.gif]

I used the Interconnect Wiring Diagram for The FL's . Believe they're the same except that some of the wires aren't connected. The one you're looking for is Orange with Blue stripe. Not to be confused with Orange with Violet stripe, which looks very similar.

Hey there! I'm liking your reviews on the Dakota antenna.  I went to the Dakota website and looked at the instructions. Dakota claims the antenna does not work on weather band (or CB).  Not that I ever listen to weather band - but just wondering if it works on WB or not? PJ

I'm able to receive WB broadcasts using the Dakota Digital antenna.  I haven't been on a road trip with this bike yet, so that may be different in other areas.

Last year I would listen to the WB on my Ultra during our "out west" trip. It wasn't a lot of help. They would say things like "severe thunderstorm warning" for some town I never heard of so I couldn't easily reference that to where I was at the time.  If the sky ahead looked like the world was going to end we knew it was time to stop and put on the rain gear :)

Don't know if its the best spot but mine tucked up under the black lip, behind the windshield on the interior of the fairing nicely. Right above the spedo.

Am I crazy or does this digital antenna suck? Is anyone else experiencing problems (terrible reception)? I spliced it into the orange with blue stripped wire. How do you know if it has power? does it not work at all if you choose the wrong wire? the 3 orange wires are really close in color i believe one has purple stripe one has a black stripe and one with a blue stripe as I red in this post I was to use the blue stripped one correct? PLEASE help!!! [smiley=furious.gif]

I also spliced into the orange wire with the blue stripe.  The dakota digital antenna works fine around town, but I don't get much when I am out on the highway.  I wonder what the difference would be if I removed the antenna entirely?  I don't think I am going to return it.  For trips where I know I am going to be out of radio reception I may just reinstall the whip antenna.
