The new CVO Street Glide is killing me.  Might trade in my 2008 SE Ultra Anniversary for it.  I have the Hawgwire 300 watt system but 600 watts...damn.  This is the bike I have been waiting for.

600W??? I saw specs said that there were 100W/channel but I question if that is a true 100W/channel. That would be a big amp.. Where did they put it?  :nixweiss: They mounted the SEUC's amp under the tour pack and I think that was only a 40W/channel. I'm curious because I would love to add it to my'10 SESG. If you trade yours in, do you want to make me a good deal on your Hawgwire amp?

Mike

The hawg Wired system goes inside your fairing.  I had it in my 06 Street Glide too.  On Ultra I had the amp under tour pak removed and sold it.  Great people to deal with. www.hawg-wired.com  Much better than Hog Tunes

What system puts out 600 watts???

The spec is mis-interpreted. H-D states it is 100w per channel, but they do not mention that it is 100w RMS so it's questionable on the actual output. It's been mis-interpreted  that there are 6 speakers and thus 600w. Doesn't work that way. Even amplifiers are not accurate when they discuss "channels". No matter how many outputs an amp has - the "channels"  are related to a discrete source input. For example - you can have 4 outputs on an amp but it may still only be a stereo amp, and thus there are 2 discrete channels for amplification - Left and Right. Conversely (even though all channels are embedded digitally) a modern Home Theater amp will have 8 amplifiers (Left Front, Right Front, Center, Left Rear, Right Rear, Left Surround, Right Surround, and Sub-woofer). All of the 7.1 channels (sources) contain different audio information - whereas a 4-output stereo amp only has 2 channels of different information (Left and Right) - it just sends the left information to 2 different speakers and the right information to 2 different speakers. So a 7.1 HT amp rated at 120w per channels is really still only a 120w per channel amp, but has a total output of 960w when all channels are pushed to peak power.

It's crazy how many manufacturers try and stretch the specs of their equipment to make it sound like something it is not.

Great info, thanks. The hawg-Wired guys would explain it the same way I bet.  I was at the dealership today and even he said it's hard to believe but he read it as everyone else is doing.  I hope more see your post and explanation.  I still love the bike, if I can get my wife to want the Syreet Glide Trike them I'm in.  I do love my CVO Ultra though.

So am I understanding this right a 300 watt Hawg-Wired System is 300 watts per channel 150 watts x 2 = 300 watts, and a 250 watt J&M Amp then be 125 watts x 2 = 250 Watts ?

KRYPTONITE

He's saying Kryptonite is the awesome color! I'm in.... :cucumber: :cucumber:

BTW,  does anyone know what invoice is on a new 2011 SESG? Curious....

So am I understanding this right a 300 watt Hawg-Wired System is 300 watts per channel 150 watts x 2 = 300 watts, and a 250 watt J&M Amp then be 125 watts x 2 = 250 Watts ?

Almost ... but the max Hawg system is 75 watts per channel and the J&M is 125w/channel when a 2ohm load is applied.

I need to correct my original post a bit first. I mentioned a home theater amp and stated it had 8 discrete channels. That was not accurate - I should have said it had 8 separate amplifiers. That is why (in my example) it is referred to as a "7.1 channel system". The ".1" channel is not really a discrete channel (although it usually has a separate amplifier) as it is the sub-woofer information. The reason it is not truely discrete is that the sub-frequencies are also in the LF and RF channels and are filtered out of those channels and sent to a separate amp section. So in a 7.1 HT setup ... there are 7 discrete channels and 8 amplifiers.

HawgWired sells two different amplifers. They sell a 60 watt and a 75 watt. They publish that they used the Root Mean Square (RMS) method of measuring power output so it readily comparable to other ampliers that state the output using the RMS method. HW is simply selling a single amp per speaker, but it is still a 60 watt or 75 watt per channel system. For 4 speakers, you need 4 75w amps for a total of 300 watts if all channels are driven to peak simultaneously.

The J&M amp looks exactly (and has the same specs) as my elfAudio - which is the same as the arcAudio, which is the same as Wetsounds, etc. J&M publishes there amp specs as follows:

"This is a full range class G amplifier and is spec’d at 125watts RMS per channel, both channels driven, continuous into a 2 ohm load @ 14.4vdc, 70watts RMS continuous into a 4 ohm load."

If you use their 7.25" speakers then it should be accurate to be 125w/channels as their 7.25" speakers have a 2 ohm nominal impedance. However, if you use other speakers at 4 ohm then the rated output drops to 70w/channel.  Another option is to use 4 -ohm speakers and use 4 of them - hook the 2 for the left channel in parallel and hook the right 2 in parallel. This will drop the load to 2-ohms and the J&M will be back to 125w/channel. HOWEVER ... and this is IMPORTANT ... if you try and hook an additional set of 2-ohm speakers in parallel with the J&M amp it will cook the amp pretty easily as the total load per channel will drop to 1-ohm (a full short is 0-ohms). If you want to run 4 speakers (each speaker rated at 2-ohms) then the speakers MUST be wired in series rather than parallel - a total load of 4-ohms per channel will be realized, and the J&M rated output will drop to 70w/channel.

Anyway ... gotten far enough off-topic. Back to the 2011s!!

Thanks Tif2  :2vrolijk_21: It appears the 2011 SESG will have a stereo system that is louder than the exhaust.  :nixweiss:

Maybe ... maybe not.

Since the "100 Watt Per Channel" feature of the 2011 has no reference to the measurement of that output - it really has no meaning for comparison to other upgrades on the market (HawgWired, Hogtunes, elfAudio/arcAudio/J&M/Wetsounds, Biketronics, etc). Hearing is believing in audio ... and as soon as my dealer has a 2011 in stock I'll audition (around the 16th or so).

In looking at my previous posts, I should probably dig a bit deeper. While it may have helped in understandig I need to point out that it's really not about discrete information, but mostly about discrete amplification[/b]. Suffice it to say that a true x-channel amp (be it 2, 4, 28, etc) will have separate and discrete inputs for each individual amplifier section. This allows for pre-processing of signals prior to amplification. I can have a head unit that will take a stereo recording (2 channels) and create 4 channels of output (LF, RF, LR, RR) in order to manipulate those individual outputs. While it's still a stereo signal (2 channel) it can be digitized, bridged, split, etc. in order to manipulate 4 separate signals (albeit 2 channels of information). At that point each signal becomes available for processing (Time Delay, Fade, Balance, etc). The important thing to note is that a true x-channel amp will have x-number of inputs (regardless of number of outputs) and x-number of amplifiers for each input.

Audio is getting to be a very, VERY complicated media ... hope this helps a bit.

I'll post my un-biased impressions on the new system.

I too am very happy with my 2010 Spiced Rum CVO.  I am not crazy about any of the new colors.  I do like the speakers and hope they will sell them to us for the 2010's eventually.

I do like the 2011's, but wish they  have not put two extra holes in the fuel tank to make room for the tiny speakers. Wish they would've placed the tweeters elsewhere and retained the full dash with gauges.  :'(
