2011 CVO Road Glide or newer replace head unit?
« on: January 23, 2014, 09:05:56 PM »

I called Bikertonics and spoke to a Rep which stated that the CVO starting in 2011 switched to a CanBus style interface which won't allow the BT1005 to work with my bike to add the Clarion NZ503 I waned. He stated that since the amps are digital, that the headunit can't be swapped without manipulating the whole system to make it work since they "talk" to each other. Anyone ever heard of this? Any other post 2011 CVO owners able to chirp in?

I changed my 2013 to a Kenwood DNX890HD. Pete from Soundz made me the box to utilize my handlebar controls. I'm running a Biketronics amp

All HK radios (06-13) are CAN BUS.
The radio is the CAN Master.
This is how the radio communicates with all external modules (CB, XM, etc.) as well as the amp.
CVO bikes are a bit more difficult to install aftermarket amps, but in no way impossible.
Biketronics is correct, the entire system will need a bit of re-wiring, but it's not as bad as it seems
