Until now, longest single-day ride on my '08 Springer has been about 270 miles, during an 1100 mile 9 day run. Took my first long ride of 2010 from Ohio down into Virginia, about 350 miles, with the last 40% on two lane roads in the WV/VA Allegheny's to where I hooked up with my family on a long weekend. Took me 8:40.
Glad for the T-Bag which offers some back support. Other than that, and the need to stretch, no complaints. I've got extended pegs, which helps, and a Windvest 14". It was very windy, with a lot of buffetting, but that's part of the ride for me.
Can there be any greater sense of freedom than out in the middle of nowhere, alone in the mountains, rumbling along through the turns? Cresting a mountain and seeing the Shenandoah Valley bathed in late afternoon sunlight? Motoring passed towns and villages with a glimpse of all the lives and living in this great country?
You can't explain it to anyone who doesn't ride, and I don't try to those who question why I do. You can only savor it and smile. Here's to why we ride.
