SVO Engine Specs
« on: June 18, 2019, 09:57:18 PM »

I bought my first CVO a little over a month ago. It is a 2019 CVO Limited. I am trying to sort thru all of the “Stage” stuff. My question is my stock 117 engine where does it fall in the stages? There seems to be different info coming from different dealerships service writers. I had one tell me that my heads are the CNC ported heads. Just trying to understand what I have.

CNC ported heads come with a stag 4 upgrade! Stock 117 does not have ported heads! There are four stage upgrades that harley offers for performance needs!

Technically I believe Harley says the CVO's come with a Stage1. Upgraded breather and mufflers, the tune is also a stage 1 tune for the mods.

Or so my dealer says.

CVO's have always been considered to be Stage 1 from the factory, due to the higher flow air cleaners and exhausts when compared to standard models.  As for one of the common misconceptions about the engines in CVO's, they do not come stock with the Screamin' Eagle parts.  No ported heads for instance.  Harley makes too much extra profit with all those upgrade kits to even consider making any of that stuff standard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the last bike that came from the CVO factory with Screaming Eagle heads was the 103s from '04-'06. I don't think the 110s had SE heads.

Like I said I could be wrong.

The heads on the 103's were hemi heads versus the standard bathtub design, but they weren't officially SE heads.  Same for the 110's, hemi heads with bigger valves, but not SE as such.  The SE offerings in the catalog were different on both engines.

Our heads ('04/'05) were stamped "Screamin' Eagle" but as Jerry stated they weren't official SE heads.

I’m sorry, I meant the difference in a bathtub or hemispherical chamber. The inside, the guts. And what does the difference do?

If you're pulling the heads, I would consider a better valve job. Harley valve jobs are not
the greatest, you'd gain allot of performance just from doing that. fwiw...

One other thought;

Harley's SE heads typically have a 91-92% throat on the intake side. That's too big for a motor
where TQ is the primary objective. A larger valve needs to be fitted to fix that. 2 cents...

(The springs are way too heavy (seat pressure), as well)
