I normally drink Icehouse, made by Plank Road Brewery. Five and a half percent not to bad, good buzz. Made since 1855, so they have got it right.
I also drink quite a bit of Boulevard Wheat, great taste and made here in Missouri.

The only higher alcohol beer I was ever fond of was the Parkbrau Perminator, smooth as a baby's ass with a nice kick to the head.  :bananarock:

looking good Neil,  :2vrolijk_21:
I used that same technique for 6 yrs before i switched to all grain, I could do a batch in two hr. flat
what are you brewin, I see a can of amber & light, and some DME on the counter.
DME is a good thing to add to all your extract brews, it adds enzymes which are cooked out of the liquid
extract.

That sounds interesting.  What's the shelf life of most homebrew?

I have an Imperial stout I did back in 1995, that finished out at 12-14%, we drink one bottle a year around the holidays and drink it out of shot glasses, every year it gets better and better like good scotch  :2vrolijk_21:

When beer get over 10% its considered Barley wine, at these levels it will kick you A$$. I made the fatal mistake of trying to drink one of them by myself once, woke up the next morning "FDC" face down in carpet, looked up and there was still 1/2 the bottle sitting on the table. I did have a few others before attempting this foolish endeavor, but I think I'll stick to drinking it in shots.

So that is why I don't remember drinking barley wines usually.

But I did remember this:

"Here's Little sir John in the nut-brown bowl
And brandy in the glass
But Little Sir John in the nut-brown bowl's
Proved the stronger man at last
For the hunts man he can't hunt the fox
Nor so loudly blow his horn
And the tinker, he can't mend Kettles or pots
Without a little of Sir John Barleycorn."

I'm going to brew a 10gal. batch of pale ale tommorrow, most of my friends have not acquired a taste for some of the Big beers that I brew, so to accommodate their pallets I'll brew a nice light pale for them, I'm going to give it very agressive Hop schedule though. planning on using a mixture of Horizon, Simcoe, Amarillo, and Cascade, This should produce a very citrus-floral aroma with a nice spicy hop character.   :drink: :drink: :drink:
