Is there an easy way to lock the Zumo 660 to its mount
« on: August 09, 2009, 07:24:08 PM »

I bought a Zumo 660 a few weeks ago and like to keep it on the bike all the time.  However, every time I stop it's do I leave it on the bike or lock it in the tour pak.  Is there an easy way to lock it to the mount.

Thanks in advance

There is a rash of theft of SatNav's from autos even when locked, so don't think that locking it to a mount would secure it from the thieves out for a quick buck.  Just too tempting.  Better to go thru the hassle of stashing it away is my take on it.  Too bad it has to be this way.  :( spyder

Thanks for the feedback..I have been stashing it away...I was hoping for something simple...especially when you pull into a rest area for a quick pit stop or run in the c-store after filling up with gas.  I always lock it up for any extended periods just hoping for a solution that would let me feel comfortable for the quick stop.

Touratech makes a locking mount... but not something that would look great on your bike: http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.lasso?sku=065-0521

My experience is that the harder you make it to steal n item, the more damage is done to the vehicle.  A cordless saw will cut the handlebar right off.
Then you are really screwed.

As someone who has recently had a $300 GPS stolen off the dash of his truck, trust me, I am seriously considering it!

Truck was parked in my mom's driveway in a residential neighborhood. Yes, I had the window down, but I'd never have dreamed someone would mess with it in the driveway. There were 3 of us inside the uhaul trailer hooked up to the truck, strapping down my SERG. Some a-hole had some HUGE balls to walk up to the truck and pull it off the dash with all the activity in the area!  :soapbox:

depending on how long the stop is, drives what I do with my 660.  If it's a short stop, I'll just take it out of the mount and put it in a pocket of my jacket.  If it's a longer stop, I'll lock it in the saddlebag.  It take 2 secs to remove and store and 2 secs to put it back on.  Cheap compared to $600+ for a new one.  Out of sight, out of mind.  All handlebar locks do is keep honest people honest.

If someone wants it they will get it no matter what. Have a friend who had his 550 mounted on his fuel door with that very expensive mount. Security screw locked down. He figured since the security screw was locked down people would not know how to remove the 550. We came out of Burger King one afternoon and not only was he missing his 550 the thief ripped his fuel door off his bike. Like I said if someone wants it they will get it. Better to just store it away.

Locks only keep honest people honest!!!!!!!

 :soapbox:

Hide what you want to keep or someone else will decide they need it more then you do.
