The FLHX rear fascia have the added light at the bottom rear.  Wondering if anyone has found a good looking and spatially appropriate pair of lights to add to the side cover area on each side?

Not interested in only simple surface mounts.  It'll be an add on FLHX tail that will have to be painted anyway.  So cutting for the mount isn't a problem.   Please share ideas.  Pics to if you have them.  Thanks.

Had seen those Brian.  And considered them.  But think I want something in the middle of the filler strap rather than at the edge.  Still not sure what (if anything) to do there yet.

if you dont mind drilling these could be mounted in the middle

or the filler could be "slotted" and the lens pushed through from the back

Not worried about drilling or cutting.  Just want it to look like it belonged there when it's on.  With these would definitely cut to hide the mount plate and screws.  They've got some other small surface height stick on pieces that would be a good lenght and have countoured edges.  Might look more seamless.

Keep throwing the ideas boys and girls.  Got to be many things I haven't seen.

Do you want to add the HD running/brake light to the bottom of the fender? Stock is just a running light the replacement has an added brake light function. Direct bolt, plug and play. I have a light/brake assy fits up to 09 and one for a 10 that came off trade-in bikes.

That was the plan Wayne.  Way back when I hung the FLHX fascia on the red bike Harley was watching and released the new dual function light exactly one day after mine arrived in the mail :huepfenlol2: .

This time was planning on using the dual function light.  Since starting from scratch there's no reason not to.  Mine will be the original fascia and not the piece for the wider rear fenders.  Same light?

You could use plasma rods mounted to some polystyrene sheet material, and install the plasma rods from the interior side of the filler SG fascia filler panels.  The polystyrene sheet material would be attached to the interior of the fascia using Super Glue (ACC).  This would avoid the stick-on look.

I haven't done this modification, but I did fill the antenna holes in the SG fascia using polystyrene sheet material attached to the interior side of the fascia with Super Glue to provide a backing for the body filler/glaze.  That was two years ago and the areas of the filled in holes remain perfectly smooth.

The polystrene sheet material I used was quite thin so I used two pieces laminated together with Super Glue.  It was flexible enough to conform to the curvature of the fascia, but strong enough to support the application of body filler and glaze, and sanding.

Good luck with your project.

Did something similar on a set a couple years ago.  But used 1/4" thick balsa that was shaved down at the ends to conform then lacquered to seal.  Stuck them on with silicone marine adhesive then filled from the top.  That worked well also.

Not sure yet if the holes will be filled on this set.  The bike it's for will get a solo seat.  But might hang a rack off the back for a tour bag.  That particular detail is one I've yet to iron out.

Heres's thread by a guy who does a fair amount of fiberglass work on his bike.  If you look at post 29 you'll see the lights he added to the filler strips:

Thanks Carl.  Those images helped a lot.  I'd wondered what a simple light strip blended in and surface mounted would actually look like.  Didn't completely trust the mental image in my head.  That's great though.  I can definitely live with that.  Gotta love visual confirmation.

Thanks very much.  Appreciate the help there.

Don, figure this out yet?

I don't remember the site, but there are kits to do exactly what you want.

Basically an insert that you use after cutting a hole in the part. It goes in from the back, has a lip that protrudes through the hole, which is cut slightly oversize. A little bondo and some paint and there ya go.

Haven't bought any parts yet Duane.  But was told by Custom Dynamics that "in the spring" they're going to have something new specific to this use also.  They've already got two or three potential options on the shelf.  Just waiting to see if this new option is actually better.

If you're not completely set on the idea of light strips in the fillers...these are very minimalist and look cool IMHO. I would've added both these and the tail light to my current bike if it didn't come with led RBT lights.

Definitely don't hate the look.  Need to check Ness to see if it's as thick as it looks in the photo.  Wouldn't want that mounted on top of the filler panels of the rear fascia if it's as thick as the impression I get from these images.

Dammit Brad.  I think you just spent some of my money.  Though not for the side lights.

Had seen the side lights before.  Or at least a picture.  I'm looking for something to center in the filler panel as opposed to filling the line between it and the body panel.  What I hadn't seen before was that tail light bar with the little light on top.  Fortunately the RK project didn't have a tail light bar yet.  So at least it's not a redundant expense :drink: .
