2000 SERG conversion for Blue Tooth
« on: August 19, 2019, 08:47:48 PM »

I just picked up a new 2000 SERG- yes it is new and has 11 miles on it. I wand to see if anyone has a good recommendation for me to convert to Blye Tooth. I found some cassette to BT adapters but they have to be charged and look cheesy. I also notice there is an mini RCA style jack on the stereo and wondered if there was a way to make that an input. Anyone have a good recommendation? I want to BT it to an apple watch

The little port on the front of the radio is an aux port.  Auxiliary input.  It is selected via the handlebar controls.  There are bluetooth adapters that will connect through that port.  A little surprising is that there are also still bluetooth adapters  out there that connect as a cassette tape adapter; so you've got options.

So enough about the silly radio.  Let's hear the story on a 20 year old SERG with no miles?

This is what I use on my '06.

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hogtunes-bluetooth-wireless-music-connector-for-harley-touring-1999-2013

I installed it in place of the useless air temp gauge. It has a wire that runs to that aux input. In addition to the Bluetooth, it has an input wire for a non bluetooth device..

My iPod bluetooths to it. From the face of the unit I can start/stop/FF/and RW tunes. I can also control volume. When hooking it up, make sure your connections are clean and solid.

Here is my review.

I'd not seen that before now Mark.  Slick part.  If I'd not tossed the rain gauge for an oil temp gauge a long time ago would use that in a heartbeat.

My New 2000 SERG- Blue tooth suggestions
« Reply #4 on: August 28, 2019, 07:59:30 PM »

I just bought a new 2000 SERG, and it is new with only 11 miles on it. I am looing for suggestions regarding the radio and cassette. I have seen some items that look like they slide into the cassette tray and then adapt to blue tooth that I can BT to my phone or Apple watch. Anyone have any luck with something like this or have any other suggestions

I have used these before.  A long time ago.  It worked.  You'll be better served by the little adapters that plug in to the aux port though.  Smaller and no moving parts.  Less points of failure (and probably cheaper too).

Thanks for the reply. I don't understand what you are talking about though. Are you saying they make something that plugs in somewhere else on the player that adapts to BT? Where is the other port ?

There is a 1.5mm ?? headphone or auxiliary jack on the right side of the OEM radio face.

I believe its just below the bar and shield logo. (has a little cover as pictured...sorry for the size, I hijacked the pic off ebay)

Congratulations on the purchase BTW...

Sorry I did not reply to TWOLANE before, and for the re=post. I did not know it moved. I found a guy who bought a bike a year and parked them in a garage to never ride again. I have wanted one for a while but wanted low mileage. When I found 11 miles I figured that as it. Makes my 5th CVO with a Blue 99, Orange 2000, 2000 SERG, 2001 WG and a 2008 WG

If yours is a 2000 yes, you can use that aux jack for input.  If it's a 2001 you won't be able to.  The 01s came with the CD player in the tour pak and that player unit uses up the aux jack input.  So if it's a 2001 you'll need the cassette deck bluetooth adapter.

So I found a few 3.5mm to BT adapters on line- thanks to all for the direction. They all seem to be battery operated and need to charge before use. Anyone know of one with long battery life they suggest?

Yeap, the aux is to the right of the cassette deck under the logo.  If it's not broken off over the years will be a little cover plugging the hole :2vrolijk_21: .

If needing to go the cassette route:

https://www.amazon.com/Arsvita-Audio-Cassette-Adapter-Auxillary/dp/B07N2KPTGW/ref=sr_1_7?crid=29M2BZJD5U2FL&keywords=cassette+bluetooth+adapter+for+car&qid=1567039157&s=gateway&sprefix=cassette+bl%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-7

If can use aux port:

https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Bluetooth-Receiver-Microphone-Streaming/dp/B013QJ0W8Q/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=aux+bluetooth+adapter+for+car&qid=1567039231&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Those would be examples of the kind of kit you'd be looking for.

One other type of option.  If you can use your aux port.  Only downside is you'd be run an aux cable from the cig lighter plug to the radio.  This would let you pair phone or radio (or both) and not have to worry with replaceable batteries or recharging:

I want to run without the tourpack. The cable for the antennae needs to be adapted. Any idea what that adapter is called?

It was just that.. and antenna adapter... I had to run one on my '09 CVO Road glide to mount the antenna.. it was part of an antenna relocation kit and I don't know if I have a parts breakdown for it.

Anyone else can help by shedding light on it? it was a screw on adapter that would mount just where the stock antenna wire unscrews from underneath the tour pack. The antenna would screw onto it. I probably have one in all my junk someplace.

I actually saw the remote antenna mount for the later bikes in that pile of junk this past weekend while looking for other stuff but did not notice the antenna adapter.

The P/N has changed since I got mine (my P/N was 76326-00)… new is AM/FM Antenna Relocation Kit P/N 76556-09 the part in the middle w/the two nuts on it is what I think you're looking for.

Yup.. That's the ugly bracket!

Come to think of it... the adapter might even be attached to the bracket... But that would mean digging in my storage again... and risk being buried alive like in an episode hoarders..

so 76326-00 has a different bracket... a nice, shiny chrome one...

and 76556-09 has the black bracket.

Just for the sake of useless trivia.. :)
