Sound from Garmin
« on: January 21, 2009, 07:55:00 PM »

I was wanting to plug my 550 into the lighter, for sound, but reading the HD owners manual it says no to plug any accessories into the lighter, not sure why, so how is the best way to retrieve sound from my 550?

Little confused by your question/post... You're asking about sound, but speaking of a power source. If you are looking to get power for your Zumo many of us use the lighter for a power source. To get sounds you have to have some type of stereo on your bike. You use a stereo patch cord from the line out on your Zumo, and plug that into a line in (aux on stock H-D radio's) on your radio.

Just to add a lil to Gary's, the sound comes thru the car suction cup mount. That has a speaker. There is no speaker in the bike mount! ;)

Your avatar is showing a SERK (which doesn't come w/a radio)... are you trying to use the Zumo on your bike? What kind of stereo do you have on it? If you are speaking of using it in the car then the car mount has a speaker and you don't need to plug the Zumo to anything for sound. Just plug the power cord from the mount into the cigarette lighter plug for power.

Ok, that helps. :) Yes you can get power from your cig. lighter, plug a stereo patch cord from the line out on the Zumo mount to the Aux plug on the front of your radio... Switch your radio to Aux and you'll hear navigational directions, MP3's (if you have any loaded), and XM Radio (if you have the ant./receiver and service).

Don't the 09's come with XM (service extra) on the bikes?

The HK radio on the SEUC has the XM module installed, however, you can't listen to the XM radio on the HK unit and the directions from the Zumo plugged into the Aux input, at the same time.  If you have the 550 and want to listen to XM then activate an XM radio on the Zumo and not on the bike, that way you put the HK radio in the Aux position and you can hear the directions and XM together.

I knew about listning to the AUX and Zumo similtaniously, just wondered if the 09's came with XM. The new 650 Zumo's don't come with XM if I am rembering correctly.

Correct the new Zumo 660 will not have XM capabilities.
