Title: M8 Lifters
Post by: rayson56 on October 08, 2019, 11:43:12 AM
So what's the story on the lifters on our M8's? Are they the same part number as the latest TC's? Should they be changed out at 25-30k as preventative maintenance? I used the search feature but only saw that people were changing them out as part of a cam chest upgrade but haven't seen anything about flat out failures. I'm over 21K on mine and warranty is good (assuming I can get around thee TTS test) until April 2020. After that I plan on doing an S&S cam plate and oil pump upgrade, which will include lifters, pushrods and a cam but was just curious if anyone has had any issues yet.

TIA

Good question, I've wondered the same.  Less lift cam lobes but now pushing 2 valves.  I think the jury is still out on this...

Smaller valves and springs equal less wear and tear on lifters

The M-8 lifters are the same -99C lifters that came stock on the regular Twin Cams (not the 2013-2016 CVO's).  The M-8 valve train however is not set up like the Twin Cam 110's and in theory should not pound the beejesus out of the lifters.  I guess time will tell if lifters will be a problem, but at least so far with two years of testing by paying customers I haven't seen or heard of any major problems. :nixweiss:

What is the spring force at max lift of the tc88 engines?  Is is more or less than 2x of the M8 spring force at max lift?  That isn't the only factor of course but might give some indication.
