Title: 2017 / 2018 / 2019 Meeting In The Middle
Post by: Jock on June 01, 2017, 09:00:13 PM: Once upon a time, many moons ago, a site member had a thought. What if we had an informal gathering near the middle of the lower 48 states? Up to this point there had been some gatherings on the East and West Coast however nutin’ centralized.

A clarion call was made with Twolanerider and some friends answering it back in 2006. The gathering would take place in September 2007.

There were members from near and far that made the pilgrimage to Hot Springs, AK. The event would bring together Southerners, Yankees, East Coast, West Coast, Male, Female, Black, White, Brown…if it had a label, it was represented! But there was one label that applied to all – Biker!

Many of the members that attended this gathering are still active members. However there are some who have gone on to the next chapter of their life and at least one who is with Him.

Post by: Jock on June 01, 2017, 09:04:24 PM: Fast forward to the end of 2015, MIKEYTEE starts to ponder the idea of a Meeting In The Middle! I remember reading this thought and a projected was in 2017! I thought, Damn that’s a long time away but it certainly went by fast!

As I understand it, MIKEYTEE reached out to the Godfather of the Original Meeting In The Middle, Twolanerider and the ponderin’, and hankerin’ began.

With over 100 potential attendees with 70 bikes, this will be the largest gatherin’ to date!

There will certainly be some memorable times and I invite you to share your photos and comments within this thread. For me Dierks Bentley‘s song, Every Mile A Memory, may apply.

It was too few weeks after I wacked off my left index finger and the finger wasn't supposed to be riding yet! Dropped the Road Glide once while there because I banged the sore stub on the clutch lever and killed the engine.

That Eureka trip was also the first CVO wedding. I got ordained just for that trip and in the parking lot downhill from where we'll all be staying we had a heck of a wedding one night. All bikes and riders and people from up the hill watching what was going on the down the hill :huepfenlol2: . Done seven more weddings since then too. One of them was even another CVO couple and was at Eureka Springs!

After riding around Leatherhead and Beaver Lake I decided to return since my heart was heavy. To my surprise – Open.

This chapel is nestled in a woodland setting rising forty-eight feet into the Ozark sky.

On the interior, the central lobby has a marble counter with hallways to the men's and women's facilities on either side. Mirrors cover the walls in the lobby. The floor of the sun porch is covered with quarry tile, and most of the remaining floors in the building are finished with acrylic tile. Ceilings are concrete and painted plaster. Interior walls are brick and hollow tile finished with plaster.

The two-story 37-room Spanish Colonial Revival building, approximately 14,000 square feet, is constructed of brick and concrete masonry finished with stucco. The structure is trapezoidal in plan, although the impressive front elevation is symmetrically designed with twin towers composed of three-tiered setbacks flanking the main entrance. The main entrance is accessed through an enclosed sun porch, a later addition set between two pavilions that form the visual bases of the towers above them.

The moderately priced bathhouse services were designed to serve the public at rates set somewhere between the lower-priced Superior and the luxurious Maurice. With an original capacity of 40 tubs the building was expected to handle about three times as many bathers as the Hale or Superior.

The building was remodeled in 1915, following a design by George Mann and Eugene John Stern of Little Rock, which added the front sun parlor and made the white hygienic appearance warmer and more luxurious.

The exterior of the Maurice Bathhouse is simple yet elegant in design. The interior of the Maurice – patterned after the most successful contemporary European spas – was one of the best equipped and luxurious early-20th-century American bathhouses. The Maurice is probably the best example on Bathhouse Row of a bathhouse specially designed using concrete, metal, and ceramic elements to furnish a hygienic atmosphere and specially equipped with the ultimate in early-20th-century bathing technology. Technologically advanced heating, ventilating, and vacuum-cleaning systems were installed in the Maurice to provide a comfortable, healthy atmosphere for the bather. A therapeutic pool was installed in the Maurice in 1931 to treat various forms of paralysis (spurred on by Franklin Delano Roosevelt's treatments at Warm Springs, Georgia). At this time it was also the first of the Hot Springs bathhouses to provide specialized treatment for polio and other severe muscular and joint problems, being the only one to employ a registered physical therapist.

The building is designed in an eclectic commercial style of Classical Revival origin. The building has two stories and a basement, is L-shaped in plan and is constructed of brick masonry and reinforced concrete. It contains 23 rooms and is more than 10,000 square feet (930 m2). The building was constructed on the site of a 1880s Victorian style Superior bathhouse. Brick from the previous bathhouse may have been reused in this structure.

Originally opened in 1875, The Arlington Hotel is a Hot Springs treasure. Its original wooden structure was three stories high and boasted 120 guest rooms, making it the largest in the state in that era. Gas lights illuminated the spacious rooms and there was a grand court between the structures’ two wings. Colonial porches ran the full length of the building to Hot Springs Mountain. In the late 1880s, some 100 rooms, a new dining room with electric lights, and another parlor were added.

The new Arlington was referred to as “the most elegant and complete hotel in America” in Charles Cutter’s 1892 Guide Book. Designed in three sections, but with five levels, the “new” Arlington featured a spacious veranda with arcades running the full length of the hotel. Photographs and records in the 1894 and 1896 Cutter’s Guide show a rotunda, grand ornamental oak stairway circling a beautiful glass dome, the lobby, a pink parlor, and grand ballroom. The building was destroyed by fire April 5, 1923.

The Crystal Ballroom, Venetian Room and lobby were part of the 1924 structure. Adjacent to the lobby are the Writing Room (now a Starbucks), Card Room (now called the Magnolia Room) and a Board Room for meetings. The Music Room for the Arlington Orchestra’s performances opened onto the Venetian Room and lobby. The Arlington included an in-house bath house with open, bright separate accommodations for men and women, and 50 rooms had thermal mineral waters piped in. All of these facilities, except the Music Room, are still in use.

Bush, and native son Bill Clinton. Many baseball greats such as Babe Ruth as well as championship boxers have relaxed and enjoyed the thermal baths at the Arlington. Stars such as Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand and Yoko Ono have all luxuriated at the hotel. Al Capone, whose favorite room was 442, had the whole floor for his staff and bodyguards. He could look across the street from his window and see the activities at the Southern Club.

Thought about wondering how long he'd been hiding in the room (and where?) before I found him on the wall. Then I remembered I'm just not that deep. The girl at the front desk thought the bug was cool though. Ended up turning him loose outside Pizza Killer's room.

Sorry about that, Marty. We only had a few days in Toronto and Niagara. The trip was to visit Canada but also some very good friends we made at Sturgis 2013. They live in the Stouffville area outside Toronto and while they have been down south to E. TN, we had not visited them.

We enjoyed our visit very much. I love the Western part of Canada (BC, Alberta, Sas.) but had never been in the East. It is beautiful country and fine people, eh? One thing I'm sure of is anyone planning a visit to Niagara, stay on the Canadian side 'cause there ain't much of a view from the US side of either Niagara or the Horseshoe falls.

To be clear, this is a small motel with less than 30 units available. The parking lot is designed for the size of the hotel. There is some space on the side for a small number of trailers. There would have been enough room for this year's gathering but who knows about future ones.

It would definitely be a good place if an individual or small group is looking to get away from it all as it is several miles from town with a view. As Don stated, a good place to perhaps ponder!

Jock, they are sweet. I have an 2018 Grand sport, only 7236 miles on it so far. To busy riding my CVO's. I have 11,350 on my 19 CVO. Had 24,000 on the 18 CVO I traded.
