Title: Just cam's Zip 587 or 117? If you've done this once or twice over?
Post by: PAhunter on July 21, 2018, 01:02:38 PM: I looked into just replacing cams to Zipper 587's S&S lifters SE rods Zipper tensioner and Oil valve, License for PV and tune.. $1980 complete installed dyno'd .. My gut is messing w me to go w SE 117 Kit $2100 then pay for install .. the SE lifters bother me, and crank run-out bothers me.. I don't want to tear down enough to hear "your crank needs work" for the 117 kit. I had a Stage IV 117 2017 and that did not end well for me, so now I have a pretty much OEM 2015 twin cooled w V&H true duels w Rineharts… I possibly see myself on a 2020 M8. Should I consider aftermarket as well? If so which?

Define what you want to accomplish and then you can likely just change cams, put a good performing pipe on it, and get it properly tuned with a flash tuner. In PA I suggest JDs for the tune, the build, and build advise, not the dealer. http://www.jdscycleworks.com/
If it were me I would not do a build at 117" without addressing the crank and that said I would just budget $1100 for an S&S crank, the insurance policy. The cost to rework a stock crank and balance with shipping is so close I would not bother.

+1 on JDs for the tune. Don't use a dealer, (they're constrained by EPA Bullcrap)

That will satisfy your needs for the time being.

Do head milling(port work?) and a TB later on... food for thought.
