Wind buffering
« on: May 19, 2014, 08:39:29 PM »

Okay ,  got about 400 miles on my limited.     I know my stock windshield is too short and my helmet takes a bashing.  Working on a new windshield. It's about 3 inches too low.   Opinions ?  On replacements.

The other thing is my shirt,  right at top of stomach. ( no beer belly). Takes an azz whopping and leaves red marks on my skin.  Tons of wind coming underneath ???

I wear under amour long sleeve shirts that breathe as it's hot here in Texas.

Anything out there that would help with coming from underneath.

I have a 10" and 12" Freedom Shield. Both are great looking shields and I swap them out for warm/cold weather.

The 10" is dark and the 12" is light tint. The 10" I see over plenty, but I went with the light for the 12" since I could slouch down to avoid the rain and might need to look through it. The 10" in the dark looks great with the red by the way.

Thanks.  10 is my factory shield.  Nice tint on it.   Gonna order the 12.   Freedom looks like a great product

Do you have the went open on top of the fairing?

I get no wind buffeting when the vent is open.

I've had them for a few months now and they cut the wind off from coming over-top of the lowers completely. They will re-direct the air out where you can feel it on the outside of your knees. I also run with the lowers opened because there is less air-flow around the motor but I haven't seen any ill effect from their use. They attach real easy with the two bolts on the side passing lamp bracket.

You may want to give these a try:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/fltr-wind-deflector-kit

HD part #57000063

They're intended for Road Glides but I've heard of lots of FLH owners using them with success.

I'm leaving for Iowa tomorrow with a friend who rides a Roadie.  I intend to see if they work.  It looks like they'll hit the fairing at full lock, but we'll see.....

I've tried them on my Limited. They do hit the fairing on full lock. They have disrupted the rubber gasket between the two fairing pieces.. Basically pushes this piece eventually detaching it. They seem to help the buffeting a little bit.        JoeS
