Destin and Fl Panhandle Routes
« on: September 16, 2011, 11:49:39 PM »

Hey Folks,

Looking for some interesting routes for the Destin area of Florida.

I'll be up that way with friends the week of the Florida State HOG Rally.  Does any one have any canned routes (Zumo) for the panhandle area.?

I was stationed in Pensacola many many many years ago and I really don't know the area any more.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Matt

Don't have a map, but Hwy 98 E/S is a great ride. Goes thru Tyndall AFB for a nice lonesome ride. Mexico Beach to St. Joe park is great. Make sure you eat at the Apalachicola Fish House, on corner downtown...looks like a old drugstore.

A ride along the coast to Apalachacola is a must, with a stop in Panama City Beach.  :2vrolijk_21:

98 from Carabelle to PC is a good route for oceanside riding.  Appalachicola is worth a visit.  Boss Oyster and/or Gibson Inn porch for cold beverage.

If you have never been to PC it is worth a look, but we usually cycle the back roads around it due to traffic & a big collection of idiot cage drivers there.

West of PCB take Front Beach Rd. then before Rosemary Beach take 30A west then back on 98 w.

Past Destin take Hwy. 399 south over bridge to Navarre then 399  w down Santa Rosa Island.  Lots of dunes & water.

Check out Google maps for a bridge/water loop up into Pensacola then back down to 98.

The poker runs at the rally will take you to some of the Destin area watering holes & such.  Enjoy!

The ride from Panama City to Appalachicola is very nice.  We went down for the sea food festival one year and it was the best and freshest raw oysters I ever had.

Excellent!  Thanks for the couple of  good suggestions.  I'll be stopping for an overnite in Apalachicola ...   before heading up into Destin.

Beautiful area; one of my favorite beach places for sure.

Mexico Beach has a place called Killer Seafood and the Fish House...both outstanding places to eat.
