Sadly I have to report we did have a slight accident on the way to the Lodge on the ride Friday. But because of lightning quick (almost catlike) reflexes, the only casualty was that of BIGFOOT, the most feared, highly aggressive dreaded razorback Ozark killer SQUIRREL, better known as "The Lunch Special" at finer restaurants throughout Arkansas. Can't provide definitive proof who squashed BIGFOOT The Killer Squirrel but I do offer the evidence:

We can’t say enough about what a wonderful time we had this week getting to revisit with old friends and make many new ones. This CVO bunch is really great to be around! The ride Friday to and from Mt. Magazine was just great! You couldn’t have asked for better weather or folks to ride with. Bubba did an excellent job of leading us making sure that we had ample stops along the way. The seating in the lodge dining room was very aptly handled by Bubba and the restaurant food turned out to be good.
After lunch we took off for a long ride to work off our meal lead by “Unbalanced” through the park and back down Arkansas Scenic Route 7.
Just to let everyone know, we are still in Tennessee. Missed getting to VA by 70 miles. We got to Exit 8, Morristown, TN and collapsed at the Holiday Inn. We rode 638.8 miles for the day. Each time a car passed us on I-40 with a hairy passenger leg propped up on the dash, I couldn’t help but smile and think of my spa bath buddies I made in Hot Springs this week. (You know who you are!)
We have lots of pictures to post. But, we are too tired to upload them. So, I’ll do it when we get home sometime tomorrow.

Hey, Howie, it was killing me to find out which way around Little Rock was actually shorter . . . . Well, it looks like Ken and them guys took the shorter route . . . . by 0.2 miles! :huepfenlol2:
I used my MapSource software and set waypoints at each end, one on I-30 and the other on I-40 and then routed it like we rode today and then through the I-440 bypass that the others took. Our way was 0.2 miles farther, which means . . . . . . . . . . we took the long way and still ended up in front! :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock: :D ;D ;)
Still not sure why the stupid Garmin said that was the shorter distance, though. :nixweiss: Maybe 'cause it sensed we were going WFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :huepfenlol2:

Something a little better to look at.......
-
Last night together
-
Just getting a chance to look at everyone's fun from the weekend. Everyone I saw was having a great time all weekend. I know I certainly did. From beginning to end and rain or shine.
I'm afraid, however, that the portrayal of the hard charging hard riding rally weekend might be, well... less than complete. A Gathering it definitely was. And riding we definitely did. But what was most important was certainly up for grabs. Hopefully the next few pictures will give a better idea of the CVO Picture Taking and Gabbing Bazaar that so many of us just enjoyed.
Of course there were the studious well intentioned artists. The people (ok, the person) intent on taking quality photos and being a true documentarian of the weekend.
-
Then there was most of us who didn't even take our helmets off to shoot a picture.
-
We even had people taking pictures in Spanish!
-
I know, I know, you can't tell it by their... ah... demeanor. But Travis and Mike were actually sober trying to take synchronized photos.
-
Then when more and more people started to horn in on the fun Mike just said "to hell with it" and walked off.
-
Then just when you think someone might actually be trying to take a serious photo again.......
-
you see this.
-
This group can't even go eat for taking photos (you know someone has some messed up priorities when that happens!).
-
Then, finally, all sense of proportion is lost when (you can't see them all) 37 people line up with cameras all screaming "Howie, show us your tits!"
No one really ate much after this either.....
-
But even with the camera fetish in high gear there was a heluva nice crowd of great people here. My best guess is around 75. I know for a fact I counted 65 individual heads and heard of a few others.
-
So along with taking pictures we talked, a lot. Man we're a gabby group.
Here Mike is talking to Travis saying "man, this red bike is really the nicest one here!"
-
Of course no event goes off without a flaw. Here MJ has just been heard to say "is that me I smell?" It was a wardrobe malfunction....
-
Ride we finally did though. Though not without proper thought and preparation. Mark had just thought "ok, what does that button actually do anyway :nixweiss: ?"
-
And in a really sad moment here AJ had just yelled as loud as he could "Travis, Travis; come look, I can make my soda go pee pee!"
-
Scooter, you can tell, was simply awe struck by the talent exhibited in Mike's pre-ride finger puppet show. Harry had obviously seen the show before....
-
But dammit, some people were actually here to ride. That's right. We were everyone of us shown up by a 16 year old....
-
Taking Jessica's lead, however, head out in a might roar of sound and power we did. This was right after the U-turn we made because... well.... never mind.
-
And then we stopped to talk some more.

This is what happens in this group when five people simultaneously see a previously unreleased piece of new chrome.

Bird poop. Seat. 'nuff said.

I like that bike, I like that bike, I like that bike, I like that bike, I like that bike, I like that bike....
You do not want to know what happened when Joe found the 21st bike that he liked.
-
"Can you believe these buys can talk about these damned motorcycles that much?!?"
-
All weekend whenever Terry's back was turned Chuck and Mike were looking at Diva's butt?
-
We had troublemakers too. Oh yes we did. These guys are saying "hehehe, can you believe what we just wrote on those Goldwings?!"
-
But the really funny part is that these two had walked by about 90 seconds before saying the same damned thing!
-
Then there were the "bad moments." Brian is coveting another man's shirt.
-
Mike White's "gotcha" of Mike Scott, Joe and Joe's brother. "Can you believe the tata's on tha......" and all their heads went bziiiinnnnnnnnnngggggggg>>>>>>>>>.
-
The bikes themselves seem to have an odd collective mind this Gathering too. An angry looking collection of orange and black Jesters claiming their space (or marking their territory).
-
Had never seen such an outstanding bunch of bananas.
-
But no fear was shown by the stalwart pair of Cherries. Pushing themselves front and center in the middle of all they took their rightful place.
-
And then two good friends sat on them :2vrolijk_21: .
-
Great pics of good times, wish we were there. Thanks to all that posted.

LOL Brian, Don't let him know he might have been wrong.
-
Between JR and Twolane, I think we have a site photographer!!! Very nice!!!

Thanks guys for all the great pictures. Don't know what was better, 2Lane's pictures or his commentary on each one. :2vrolijk_21:

LOL Brian, Don't let him know he might have been wrong.
The shortest way is the one that gets you there the fastest! And I always take the shortest way Ken! You should know that by now! ;D Thanks for the reassurance Brian. It was great riding that last leg with you. You're an "A" Group rider for sure! ;)
Hey gang, Binx and I finally got home late last night. I started catching up and was waiting for Don to finish so I could get some pics up, but started falling asleep at the computer. I'll try not to duplicate, since we all got a lot of the similar shots.
I just want to say what a fantastic trip this was! I'm so glad we figured out a way to get down there after last Sat's fiasco!
Before I get going, I need to thank a few folks here. First and foremost, thanks Barry for getting me your brother's bike! Even though it was set up for a midget, I couldn't have done this without you! :2vrolijk_21: The first day I rode it, after getting off the planes, then riding immediately after that with Harry and Rhino to lunch, in what turned out to be a 3 hour ride where the was no time for lunch, my back was in knots. Evidently Harry and Rhino need escorts to their Hotels. I guess they don't like to ride alone, or got tired of impressing each other. I hadn't eaten and was out at 4AM and the girls were starving. I guess after finding out we were an escort service instead of all just going to lunch as planned, Rhino's take was that I didn't like the bike I was loaned. He continues on with his delusions of reality I guess! ::) After lying in bed in agony for a few hours, Big Ed, Trish, Ken, Cheri and Binx dragged my ass to the Rendezvous for dinner with the Memphis group. And I was glad they did! Great to meet all those folks. What a great group!
Now I need to thank Ken most of all. Without his help, this entire trip would not be possible. After killing my back on that first outing, Ken was kind enough to offer to trade bikes for the ride to HS. We continued to play musical bikes the rest of the trip. It was nice riding Ken's SEUC, and that made it easier to adapt to the green Ultra Barry loaned me. So all was good in the riding department. And we got Binx out on Mon so she can spend a few days with Ken and Cheri in KY. She had a blast there. Binx ind Cheri even got matching BFF Tattoos together in KY! Thanks guys! It was great seeing youse again! And Ed and Trish too! We miss ya'll already! :(
I need to say thanks to all the others that offered me a bike. I musta got 12 offers within 4 hours of posting. All you people are incredible!
Thanks Mike for setting up Fri's ride thru the AK countryside. It was a wonderful ride, with beautiful views. I jumped out of the group for the last 60 miles and took the twisties of Rt 7 back to the hotel alone on Ken's SEUC. Ya'll know I had to get a solo Hoist Rock n Roll ride in somewhere, didn't ya? ;D
Great ride to HS with Chip and Nancy from Memphis too! I will ride with these fine folks any day of the week! I don't need to mention the speed we were going. But I can say that everything you imagine about the way wee ride is true! ;)
What a group we have here. Each and every one of you is better than the next. The chemistry of the people here is really something special. I need to thank all of you for changing my life since joining this site. I truly do love this place! Thanks Neal for making it all possible!
Well, as you know, I can go on and on about this trip, but the pics you saw speak for themselves. Here are some more. I'll post them uncaptioned. I'm nowhere near close as a creative narrator as Don. And Scarecrow, I'll miss you most of all!
Enjoy the pics!

Here's a pic of the GPS on my Classic.
Between Memphis and Hot Springs Hoist, Nancy and I got separated from the other riders.
The Classic was showing a buck ten and Howie was playing with us waiting for us to twist it more.
He didn't realize there wasn't any more.
:(
-
When we got to Hot Springs the last 10 miles the bike was feeling a little strange.
The tire had a bubble poking out on the belt side.
Every revolution the belt took a little bit off the tire.
This was at the Harley shop where I got the new tire.
-
Chip, what made the belt rub the tire? Did things get out of alignment?
What ever happened, it is not a pretty sight
-
When they pulled off the tire I asked for it so we could take a picture.
Nancy took the picture showing the outside bubble but as I was holding it I realized the inside had a bubble also.
Here is the inside of the tire.
It wasn't a question of "if" it was going to blow it was "when".
Thank God the Harley shop was two miles from the hotel.
-

Brian
Alignment was fine.
The bubble sticking out was the only thing that hit the belt.
Harley shop said they had never seen a tire do that.
The tire had 3500 miles on it by the time we got to Hot Springs.
But it's headed to the shredder now!
It could have been really ugly!

Yeah Chip, and Brian did the same to me on the way home. When I got the 95" up to 110, Brian seemed to be waiting for me to twist it more. There was no more! That's why a man can never have enough horsepower,eh! ;)

Actually Howie, I was very happy with 109 out of that 88" motor.
Especially hauling all the chit I had packed on it plus a cooler full of drinks!
-
Thank God the Harley shop was two miles from the hotel.
No, Thank God you discovered it 10 miles from the hotel and BEFORE it popped! Wow, that would have been ugly. Pretty good outcome. How much luck did you spend on that one? Worth every penny for sure!

Chip, you've got to cut Howie some slack. The jig is really up now. We can end the conspiracy about all the riding he did all weekend and finally say how he got around. It wasn't that he was bitching so much during the weekend. He was the bi... ummm... the BSR!

Silly boy!
No better than the Frontier takes the curves you shouldn't have a problem even on a Blast!
All you need is a bike powered by hot air and you would have no trouble with it!
Now make sure Ken has a room booked for M/V and all will be well.

Truth be told the Howie was pissing and moaning after getting off a dresser right about that time. His ass fell in love with a Corbin :2vrolijk_21: .
And therein lies the truth! I was testing the seat for Binx. After all, everything I did so far was for her saftety and comfort! ::)
And now that ya'll suck for letting me try that Corbin in the first place, I had to make sure it was good for her too! ;)

Howie
Silly boy!
No better than the Frontier takes the curves you shouldn't have a problem even on a Blast!
All you need is a bike powered by hot air and you would have no trouble with it!
Now make sure Ken has a room booked for M/V and all will be well.
:2vrolijk_21:
Already done! :2vrolijk_21:

And therein lies the truth! I was testing the seat for Binx.
Too true. He was testing the BSR spot for Binx. For hundreds and hundreds of miles. When he finally got off he curtsied and told Ken, "thank you for the nice ride sir, may I have another."
(oh god, just the image of that scene in my head is enough to need therapy forever)

No disrespect Diva, but I don't think 1 person was under 40 there. Except maybe Binx, and she's hitting that on 10/3! ;)

Alignment was fine.
The bubble sticking out was the only thing that hit the belt.
Harley shop said they had never seen a tire do that.
The tire had 3500 miles on it by the time we got to Hot Springs.
But it's headed to the shredder now!
It could have been really ugly!
SO glad it turned out the way it did. ;)
-
Chip, you've got to cut Howie some slack. The jig is really up now. We can end the conspiracy about all the riding he did all weekend and finally say how he got around. It wasn't that he was bitching so much during the weekend. He was the bi... ummm... the BSR!
This pix must be nominated for Picture of the Year. :D

Here's Travis thinking,
"I drove all this way to dust that 110 of Hoist and it's home in a box."
Be careful Howie, I rode that bike and besides the fact that it runs, (different from Cybil) it runs good!
Travis
It was a pleasure for Nancy and I to meet you!
I believe the red ones are faster!
Chip - Thanks for the kind words. I was great to finally meet you and Nancy. You guys are a great couple, and really made me feel like part of the family. Thanks.
One thing we know for sure is the red bikes are faster than black ones, just not the Silver & Black ones. :2vrolijk_21:
Later,

-
I've ridden his bike before and it runs great. That's what got me started on my project in the first place! The red one was faster! The key word is highlighted! ;)
Travis was looking forward to checking out Cybil too! He doesn't have enough $$$ in that thing yet! ::)
Hoist! 8)
Howie-you need to check your grammer. As long as Cybil is still in pieces, you should continue to use "is". If I put any more money into that bike I'm going to have to get a second job and that will really cut into my riding time. I do have some new OCD to show off though, I'll hopefully have some pics posted this weekend.
It was great seeing you and Binx again. I can't wait until you two retire to your farm in Western Kentucky so we can ride together more often.

We don't mind following a leader but I'm thinking the first order of business for you would be to get a R/K that runs!
When that happens give us a call. We don't need "another" 500 post about how fast it's gonna be. Fix it and then show us! ;)
Travis, don't pay him any attention. His bike don't even run, talking big smak with a broke bike. Now who is really blowing smoke! I think he's just scared of the "red" bike!

Boswell's Rivergate or Boswell's Fessler's Lane? I've never been to their Rivergate store, and that doesn't look like Fessler's Lane....unless AJ is parked next to the building where they sell used bikes...............and I can't remember what that building looks like. Fessler's Lane used to be open on Sundays after 12pm. Not sure if they've changed. The 95" build on my 02 Ultra was done at Fessler's. Great dealership.
Henry, I really don't know. It was 5 miles from C&S. AJ was leading since I don't have the dealers loaded into the GPS.

Hey Chuck,
The next time you're up that way on a Sunday, keep in mind Bumpus H-D in Murfreesboro is open on Sunday, you were only 3 or 4 miles from it on 24.

May be alittle too soon or maybe I should start another topic, but all of you seemed to have enjoyed Hot Springs so much, don't forget Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville Oct. 3-6. Goggle bikes, blues, &bbq for more info. Looks like they have a big attendence.

Your absolutely right! I know a few guys that are going. The reason HS was so special was because of the people from this site. Take that ingredient out and it would have been OK. If a group of CVO people gather anywhere it will be a good time! :2vrolijk_21:
-
I agree, after Hot Springs I think everyone should post their planned trip here on this site and let's see if any pick up steam. I think there are quite a few of us after Hot Springs that would be more likely to jump in. :2vrolijk_21:

Too true JR. The rest of the event going on in town really wasn't an issue for us. It gave us more traffic to deal with and more bikes to look at. But that's about it. We had our own fun and were quite content doing so. Personally I'm glad the rally was going on at the same time only because it had the painter in town who did the work on the trailer. Aside from that.... it just didn't matter did it :bananarock: .

But hey! $85 for 2 T-Shirts and disposable wristbands. That's a bargain. (Next time we skip the registration.)

That was one of those "good plan, poor execution" kind of things. Hey, at one point we thought we'd actually get off the parking lot and go to the concerts! Silly boys....... :mango:

Which gold shirt did you get? I thought I only paid $25 for the T shirt and wristband. But, we did get to walk inside & see the vendors ;D

I just saw my credit card bill and had an $85 charge from Arkansas. I think it was $40 apiece with a $2.50 service change. The A/C did feel nice tho. And the people at registration were really nice too.

I totally agree. The rally was a waste. But, I'm not complaining. I'd do it again.

The other Factor was the NOISE!! When we where gathered outside you had to wait for the bikes to pass to finish a sentence :)
Then In the evening it was Vroom going into the hotel and vroom going out all night ( I missed most of that) It was sure nice to get back to the country but I can't sleep now because it's to damn quiet ::)
We got a nice shirt and got to ride around town with some really nice folks and look at other folks look at us but if we do it again I'll pass on the rally BTDT.
Going to ride in MA 10/6 Come on up!!

So you are suggesting that to have a fun-filled CVO gathering, it is better to just go ahead and plan it to be "NOT AROUND" another motorcycle forum? :nixweiss:
Supposedly ------- while we were in Nelson earlier this year, there was a Victory group there also. Though I did see groups of them, there were never enough of us or them for it to be a detractor.
Just thinking out loud about 2009 plans. ;)

I think it is a safe bet to say we didn't get much out of the rally activities. We'd do just as well planning quarterly activities and go grom there. We are our own entertainment committee.
The winter GTG will need to be in the Carribean somewhere. We can all rent scooters and race. :D

Myjammy to Key West is a nice ride in December...So is goin around Big "O" or over to Fort Myers for sunset.
Fly n rides from the fat bastard in Meeeeami are available and South Beach is welll, SoBee.
I know most of yall would not like riding standard bikes but ridin is ridin sometimes. I did a fly n ride last month and actually kinda liked the slow, dirty Geezer Glide with a warped front rotor...Besides US1 to the "Rock" is only 30-50mph ish between bars, ahh errr, stops that is. :P

Wayne, I agree but the HS vendors wasn't what I expected. We have that many in Memphis for the EasyRiders V-Twin Bike show at the cook convention center. I was expecting more! :nixweiss: It was OK but our gathering was GREAT!!! Amen? ;D

Here's another shot...anybody know the year? 1980 FLT ?

looks like an EVO so at least mid 80's

i thought the shovels had the starter lengthwise on the primary
-
i thought the shovels had the starter lengthwise on the primary
The shorter primaries on the rubber mounts have the solenoids like that. On the longer primaries from solid mounts they are mounted lengthwise.
Hoist! 8)
-
The shape of the cylinders looks like a late Shovel 80ci, which was introduced in 1978 running in concurrent production with the 74ci, which was discontinued in 1981. The Shovel era ended in 1984 and was replaced by the Evo, which looked like the Shovel.
(Wilson, Hugo. Ultimate Harley Davidson. (2007) Originally published 2000. Dorling Kindersley Limited. Great Britain. pp 92-95)
I'm thinking this one is somewhere between 1980 and 1984.
-
If you can't see the rocker boxes like in that pic, you can tell easily by the base nuts that attach the cylinders, instead of studs, like they still use today.

You sure? Actually I "ballparked" it. Can't tell the exact year. OK, I'll have a beer..........since there are over 110 of them in that "rustored" vending machine in my garage.
Missed you guys too, Scooter. Originally I was to have given up HS to take Renea to the beach since she let me spend all that $ on engine work for the SEUC. Turns out we both had to work..............and it didn't matter anyway since the SEUC is still not finished. I guess I could have ridden the Sporty, but it would have taken me a week to get there. I'm good for 30 minutes on that thing, and then I gotta get off it. No amount of pain killers would soothe the aches of 500+ miles in one day on the Sporty. My body is just too beat up for that.
BBB, man I'd love to, but since we couldn't go the beach, we're headed to MV.........and the weekend before that (6-7 OCT) were headed to the NCTS and NNCS races at Talladega Superspeedway.
Tell Val, Cary and Steph I said "Hello!" Hey, you guys owe us a visit here in Alabama. You need to help me drink all this beer and show my neighbors how to construct "Redneck Fireworks." I just bought an oxyacetylene rig just for you Brother. ;D
