New CVO 117 55mm intake manifold or 64mm throttle body?
« on: April 30, 2020, 04:54:57 PM »

I picked up a new 2020.5 CVO Road Glide. I already had them put on the Pro Street Tuner and the Smart Tune Pro (auto tuner). Speaking with a tech at a dealer a few months ago he recommended replacing the intake manifold because the factory one is plastic. Do you guys agree? If so could I benefit from my current setup by going to the 64mm full throttle body setup? As I understand it the 117 comes stock with a mild torque cam, so much so they don't really offer a Torque cam for it. I also plan to have them put on the fan assisted oil cooler and the Cool Flow fan for rear cylinder under seat heat evacuation. Lastly, if the 64mm throttle body would add a little bit, should I add the high flow injectors? Any help or knowledge is appreciated.

Plastic composition alone is not a reason to change a intake anymore. LOTS of GM LS engines with 1000 + HP that have funny looking plastic intake manifolds and will take some boost without failure.
That tuner you bought though is a band-aid. EPA stopped all good things from happening with a HD Tuner.
Good Luck!

Yes, I'm aware the tuner is a band aid as you call it. I had a Vance and Hines FP3 on my 2018 Road Glide. I wanted to see what was capable while staying 100% within warranty. I'll either move back up to FP3 or go with Thundermax if I feel I need more. For now the question is will the 64mm throttle body make it run better, worse or no change? The tech I spoke to was quite knowledgeable and had seen multiple of the intakes crack. The replacement wasn't just for the sake of it.

I have only heard of two of the plastic intakes failing on the M8 engine.  I have not replaced one, and not had failure on either of my M8's.  My wife as not had an issue on her M8 either.

On a stock engine there is little to no gain going to a 64 throttle body, the stock one will support over 120 square for power.  Same with bigger injectors.  I your lookin to go over 135 square you need a bigger throttle body and injectors.

Save your money.. The 64mm is overkill for a stock 117... I would not worry about having problems with the oem setup being plastic, If and that’s a very big IF it fails your warranty will cover it up to 2 years...
