Title: Suburban Speed 117 kit for CVO 110
Post by: bteski on November 17, 2018, 03:36:41 PM
Since we are getting things back together after Hurricane Michael (63” of salt water in my shop office & the building half destroyed) I want to get back to my 2015 CVO Road Glide modifications. I want to increase the cubic inches & have been looking @ 113 & 117 options. Heads will be done by WFO Larry & should be 95cc from what I understand. I’ve looked @ the Harley 117 option but the compression is lower than what I want & I don’t want to cut the heads so either a 117 with the right pistons or similar with a 113. Tb is an SE 58mm with 5.3 injectors, FM 2-1-2 & Kuryakyn Crusher mellows or regulars I have both. Air cleaner is up in the air, Tilley wants $274.00 plus shipping for their + 1". Tuner will probably be a TTS.

Has anyone used the Suburban Speed bolt on 117 cylinder & piston kit to make a Harley 110 into a 117 using the Harley cylinders & Mahle pistons. I'm curious how this setup has worked for the people that have done it. Like everyone I'm also curious about the longevity of the cylinders with the steel not cast liners.
This is from their website.
New from Suburban Speed 117 high compression 6.6cc piston & cylinder kit. Turn your Screamin’ Eagle 110 into a 117 without boring the cases, We worked with Mahle Motorsports and came up with a reliable piston & cylinder combination using the new Screamin’ Eagle cylinders, Pistons have a 6.6cc dome to give you 10.7 to 1 compression ratio using a .040 head gasket and come with coated skirts, ring grooves and pin bores, Kit also comes with 4.125 Cometic head gaskets.

I talked to Rick in the speedshop & he told me all of the compression values were figured with the pistons .005 in the hole not zero deck. The compression is a little higher than I was going to do so I might look @ different cam choices, Originally I was looking for 10.5 to 1 to use with the TW777’s I have. With the higher compression I would probably use my TR590’s. The other cams of interest are the GMR 600 & the Wood TW999.  This is a heavy bike & I’m looking for as much torque down low as I can get but still run out to 6000 when needed.
Thanks Bob

Bob,

I recently did a 110 to 117 on my 2016 SESG. I used the Harley kit cylinders, mahle domed pistons, S&S 103 cam, 58mm throttle body that came with kit. I think a .30 gasket. Along with D&D fat cat 2 into 1. John Sachs (he is a member here) designed the build and did all the head work. I had my local dealer (Peterson’s H-D) do the build so I could retain my factory warranty. Mark with Cycle designs (boynton Beach Fl) tuned the bike. I absolutely love it. Scares the chit out of me when I really get on it. I attached my dyno sheet. John did a lot of work to my heads and not being a mechanic I didn’t understand any of it except it’s really fun and he really knows his chit. Good luck.

Wow Hondo2doc that's nice, Talk about torque everywhere & never seems to let off, I'll bet that's fun to ride. Is that the Mahle pistons supplied by Suburban Speed or did you source the pistons elsewhere.
Thx Bob

I did the 117 suburban speed 10.7 to 1 kit with their head work including a larger intake valve, 58mm throttle body, injectors,  Tman 590 Cam and a Bassani B4 2 into 1 exhaust. The bike is a beast, it pulls hard from 2500 rpm to redline. My torque and HP curves looks just like the dyno sheet above. The bike will pull from 2k up but really starts hitting at 2500 and flat out rips to redline. The 2 into 1 Bassani made a huge difference in low end compared to my Vance and Hines power dual and OS450 rounds.

Mahle makes & sells pistons for literally EVERYTHING. You can buy them multiple places. Google is your friend. Talk to Mahle direct first if you have any questions. They are some good people.

Why did suburban feel the need to have a custom piston built when a CP off the shelf piston and a 0.030 gasket would achieve the same compression but better squish and so on?

Interesting info.  I have a 2011 SESG and looking at upgrading the engine w/o messing w/ warranty. Where is "Suburban Speed" located?

Do you know the compression and was this cam the HP103 from S&S? Thanks

Nice looking curve. The tune must have been perfect and D&D pipes never disappoint. Good job, very nice.

This post seems familiar, I may have answered on another site. I'll chime here just in case I didn't.

I wanted to share specifically because I used WFO Larry heads, and the exact combo from Suburban. It has been a very fun and dependable combo over the last year for almost 30,000 miles.

Interesting that you could keep the factory warranty with those mods???
