FLHXSE3 Regulator

Is there anything to be aware of when replacing the regulator?
Is it simply plug and play?

perfectly easy job - but thoroughly check the alternator, a regulator failure in many cases gives the alternator a hit too.

There's a recall to replace defective regulators under warrantee.  I had mine fail and replaced no charge last year.

right, this one. You can check on the MoCo website if your VIN is affected.

kraut,

Regulator on bike is working ok at the moment, I have checked the date code and it falls within the product program (recall) range.

I have a new regulator ready to go on and just want to confirm when replacing it is there anything to look out for or checks before riding so I don't do any damage down the track.

Cheers

No big deal especially if you have some sort of lift. I could fax or email the page out of the service manual but i dont think youll need it. Good time to clean things up. Nice to protect the fender paint so it doesnt get hit by a tool

Thanks V,

I have all the manuals, just want to make sure I can just connect the new reg and forget about anything that will or may go wrong.

If you're concerned you only need a volt/ohm meter to check the stator.  Measurements are in your manual.  Not hard to do.  Once done you'll no longer feel like you're guessing.  Good odds are it's just a regulator with yours in the recall date range.

Double check your replacement regulator.  The over the counter parts with the same date range of manufacture are just as suspect but Mother Harley will do nothing with them under the recall.
