Title: Handlebar Shaking
Post by: steve.link on October 17, 2020, 12:08:44 PM
Got a 2019 CVO Ultra with a quite violent Handle Bar shaking between 30 and 40 mph. You can control it by holding the bars but if you take your hands off or only loosely hold them the whole front end shakes badly. Dealer checked all the obvious and diagnosed a cupped rear tyre. New tyre fitted and the problem remains. Had 6 Ultras before and never experienced this? Only difference I know about on this bike is it has different wheel sizes - 19inch front and 18 inch rear. Anybody else had any similar issues?

Regards

Steve

sound s like "head shake" common on road glides. this is 90% of the time is caused by the neck bearings being out of adjustment. easy repair... if you or your tech understand the procedure

Thanks - I would tend to agree but head bearings have been checked and are all ok

Search, "steering head bearing" on this board. (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?action=search) Lots of threads discussing the issue and remedy. Generally requires only a tightening of the steering head bolts.

I have had a wobble / shake with my Ultra, caused by low tire pressure.

My bike does it too, but not violently, and it's completely undetectable with even one hand on the bars.  As I tend to ride holding the bars,  :D  it doesn't worry me.

We've seen cases where the tech used the Batwing procedure/specs for the head bearing, instead of the one for the Road Glides.  Worth a second look.
