Title: Boombox GTS New Software Updated 06/25/20
Post by: Gfs3 on June 26, 2020, 10:29:12 PM
New Software v.21.20.22.00 dated 06/25/20 is available to download on the Harley Website.

I don't have a clue to what has changed but perhaps I will find out tomorrow when I ride again.

I did test it and my iPhone 11 Still works fine with CarPlay after the update.

This the most recent download and install of HD. I've tried to find out as to what it is and what it does and I've found nothing. Any chance anyone know how to recalibrate the nav on the Boom GTS ?

I searched yesterday and some today, not able to find out what this update does.  Rained much of yesterday so I was not able to ride and see if I could figure out what the update does.  I did install it yesterday morning.

Strange this topic has been p[osted. Because I independently came across an issue which the latest Boombox software version has resolved.
Here's a technical issue I have just resolved relating to the Boombox GTS software and the Naviextras Map Database.
I had the MY2019-1 map database on the Boombox as supplied on the bike when I took delivery  on 1st March 2019. I have updated the Boombox software each time an update was released. Up till yesterday I was running European Boombox Software Version MY20_19_39_00 dated January 3rd 2020.
The MY2019-1 map database and MY20_19_39_00 Boombox software worked well together and both Apple Carplay and Android Carplay functions were operative.
Today I updated the mapping database to MY2020-1. Guess what, Apple and Android Carplay function didn't work.
So checking online I find there is an updated Boombox software version dated 26 June 2020. I've downloaded and installed this latest version, MY21_20_22_00 and Apple and Android Carplay are functional again.
Cheers.

Rode 100 miles yesterday for DR appointment and some errands.  Took five tries and 8 minutes when I first started the bike to get CarPlay to come up.  The phone did show both blue tooth and USB connection.

Second time I shut the bike off and waited 3 minutes to restart it finally came up.  After that the bike was shut off for appointment about 2 hours.  Came right up when started.  Shut off ten minutes at first store, and again came right up.  Then five minutes off at last store and it came right up.

Can't figure out yet what it fixed or broke.  Was sure worried when carplay was so hard to get connected first time.

I called H-D today about these issues.
They want ALL the info about what phone model, bike VIN what updates to the WHIM, Sena headset, gts updates, etc etc.
I’ll have the local tech here who also had a phone conversation with them today do all the checks they ask for.
I’d like to stay out of the loop and just have Harley make their promises real.
I have a hard time dropping $50K on a bike that has seen a LOT of issues, both minor and semi-major.

I’ll drop the bike off in the morning and pick it up afternoon when I have a chance.
Stay tuned  :soapbox: :drink:

Rode again yesterday 95 miles with four stops.  Everything about CarPlay worked correctly with out any special plugging or unplugging.  So I have no clue why it was so hard to get it to work first time with new software but has been good since.

I agree with you about all the issues.  It gets very frustrating that a 42K bike has so many issues.  Everything with my iPhone 11 has worked fine with my 12 Range Rover, 17 F-150 and 18 Corvette.  Didn't have to do any updates.  Why so many issues with a 19 Harley?

It may have been Apple which forced the MOCO to update the GTS to eliminate the CarPlay Hack and may also have been the reason a list of "improvements" wasn't offered. It was intended that Apple CarPlay on the GTS required the usage of the WHIM. It appears this update removed the Apple CarPlay hack which allowed you to activate CarPlay by having your dealer "flash-activate" the WHIM option. This work-around would display CarPlay even though no WHIM was physically installed. I'd recently upgraded to the GTS on my 2015 FLTRUSE and could use Apple CarPlay without a WHIM present. My wired headset provided the ability to interact using SIRI. After updating the software, Apple CarPlay is "gone" if you've no WHIM physically present. While this will undoubtedly upset a few folks, personally doesn't bother me as I'm happy with the Ride Planner navigation system.

I spoke with the repair company which services the Harmon Kardon Radios for HD which does include the GTS radio. To start with they have no clue as to what is in the new update and they too have checked. The update before this one has caused all of the problems hands down but HD will not admit to what they have screwed us all at. They will replace my radio with another new one after I just spent 1800 plus plus 650 and my radio as a core. I asked them for a software issue you want me to spend another 650 for something hd screwed up at ?

Speaking anecdotally and with only 100 or so miles on the newest update, it seems harder to get CarPlay to come up (I always use my Evo20s headset and did not get the hack flash to eliminate the need) and the audio performance seems to have changed.

It seems to me that the volume has been slightly throttled when listening to music via the Music app, and the audio quality seems more compressed with more digital “artifact” and what I describe as surging, with audio quality and loudness sort of modulating.

I’m using an iPhone 7 Plus.

Dunno what’s going on.

you should still be able to have CarPlay.  it just requires a mic, which your wired headset should be sufficient for that.  you do not have to have the whim unless you are going wireless.

Sound logic Skratch and your signature quip certainly fits this situation ;): "I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining as a way of life"

PRIOR REALITY: had CarPlay prior to the software update (via the "phantom WHIM" flash) :2vrolijk_21:;
CURRENT REALITY: CarPlay doesn't appear following the update :nixweiss:.

iPhone was connected to the USB cable. As a curiosity, it might be interesting to see if reverting to the prior software version restores CarPlay.

UPDATE: Turns out I still have CarPlay available if after powering up with my iPhone USB connected, I disconnect ......then reconnect ......all the while making certain my iPhone is active (unlocked).

I have been with bike in HD dealer. After latest update radio is still blocked . Still same error "22" occurs . Cannot change anything in radio features. I have checked SIP and there is file with procedure for locked radios , it says if radio after latest update still bricked it has to be replaced , please contact with regional technical service , where should I call if I am based in Europe. Will they replace radios for free or what ?

I just spoke with an independent shop close to my home.   As many of us are aware, Harley has blocked the Digital Technician system at the dealer from the ability to toggle the MicroPhone slider in the flash settings of the Boom GTS unit.  He said that most shops that have 3rd party equivalent software have similar tools that allow them the same access to make the bike think you have the Microphone enabled.  He's done it to several RG's & SG's since the July 2020. He said this will work on any year model with the Boom GTS WHIM or no WHIM.  I will report back.......
