Interchangeable engine parts
(1/1)
rondolg:
Any insight is appreciated.
Besides the granite color does anyone know if the engine parts (heads, cylinders, pistons) are interchangeable? The bike is a 17 CVO limited with 80k miles. I have the bike torn down and have been pricing out parts. At this point I'm not hung up on the color issue (granite vs black). I don't really need or want to go with bigger. I see a lot of newish takeoffs available for next to nothing ($300 to $500) for heads, cylinders, pistons etc.
CVOs in the twin cam days had performance parts but I think the CVOs now are mostly if not all cosmetic.
A couple of pics to show what I'm dealing with.
Thanks for your time.
Ron.

Is that jug so scored up that it cannot be bored? Hard to tell from the pic.
RivRaptor:
Get the cylinders checked and if borable, then get a piston kit & gaskets it ain't that much more by the time your done messing around with questionable used stuff. And don't forget a (stock is fine) updated oil pump set up while you are at it. Call HD street performance up in Washington he can help you.

I have the cylinders off of my 2015 CVO Limited.
Lifters emploded at 30,000 miles. I went back with the 117 kit. Unfortunately I don't have the pistons. You can have the cylinders if it helps you, just pay shipping.
HD Street Performance:
Have you thought of just a good quality overhaul? Bronze guides, serdi valve job, bore and hone with torque plates and diamond plateau honing? Updates and S&S head bolts.
