Dyno license question
Scootsbs:
I was charged $300. bucks for a dyno tuneing license. My question is... is this license mine to keep so if I get a tune again I can use the license again and not pay again?
Does the shop give you a document? Is the bike logged in a system somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help i can get to understand the process.
JCZ:
I've never heard of a "dyno license". And I've had bikes dyno tuned in California and here in Az.
Begs the question.....what shop was this done at?
And a side question for you.....where are you located? I'm down here in the Tucson area.
Scootsbs:
This was at Main Street Moto in Las Vegas. The service writer/parts monkey charged me $900. For the dyno and said $300. Was for a license. What is a normal cost to get a dyno tune? I live in Prescott Valley Az. Now.

Not picking on the guy asking the question. But, especially with someone you don't know or buying services you're not familiar with, this is another case that illustrates the need to ask questions (price? what am I buying?) before rather than after.
I hung around outside a dyno shack at a rally killing time one drizzly afternoon. Just to watch the show. There were completely different prices charged for guys that asked before the job started versus that just said "how much do I owe" when the job was done.
Only the service provider could tell you what "license" you bought since he was the guy making it up. Maybe, just maybe, and giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, he'll tell you he's using some tuning package that has a per-bike license to use. Even that, however, is a screwing-in-process as there are other options and the only things I'm aware that ever worked that way would come with a hardware component that the license was tied to.
Providers more experienced than am I may be aware of other things....

WOW! Just out of curiosity, I'd like to hear what they tell you when you call them and ask what the "license" is for and what that gets you
How many Harley's have you had? Curious why you didn't go to a shop that specializes in Harley performance vs. some place like Main St. Moto?
Different shops charge different prices for dyno tunes but I've never heard of anything close to what you paid.
