Scorched heat shields cleaning

(1/3) > >>

luknor:
Hello

I was looking through the forum and the web and didn't find a clear answer. What can be used safely to clean off the burned boot marks from scorched heat shield?

I melted the leg of a pair of sweat pants on my 73 FL.  EZ Off oven cleaner took it off the pipe.  Long time ago so I forget the method.  I know that there are threads on it somewhere.

luknor:
I know this method but this is not chrome "chrome" but scorched chrome. I don't want to damage the looks.

spence:
WD 40 and lots of elbow grease.  I used Nevr Dull on Chrome and it worked very well, but I cant say if it would do any damage to scorched chrome or not, but I know WD wont damage it.

I have actually heated my pipes up a bit, which helps loosen the marks, then used turtle wax chrome cleaner and never dull.
