Vent Tube ... destination?

On the 2013 CVO FXSBSE,  can you guys tell me where the gas tank vent tube terminates?  From where I can see with the seat off coming from under the rear of fuel tank,  it runs from right side top of frame over to the left, then down,  then what seems to zig zag around ending up in a box just under where the primary cover meets the bottom frame.   Is that some kind of EPA requirement /emissions type thing?   Has anybody had any issues disconnecting this at the rubber piece over the belt (or other spots) in order to provide better tank venting and certainly better cleaning/unblocking of crud?    (still need to get my 'virtual-hands' on a .pdf copy of the service manual to look this up if anybody has one that can be shared)

I only have a rubber hose. No box that you speak of. Goes straight down from right side of frame under the seat.
