GREASING THE HEAD BEARINGS

(1/1)

RKUC:
For those of us still keeping it vertical, is it best to use the zerk fitting on the neck and just squeeze in the grease?  I've seen some posts suggesting I skip the zirk and repack the bearings by hand.  What's your opinion?  I like easy, but I prefer what's best.

RKUC:
Having received no replies over the last two weeks, I decided to go it on my own.  I greased the head bearings through the zerk fitting and got plenty of grease out of the bottom and none out of the top.. go figure.  I'll be breaking down the forks in the not-to-far-off anyway, so no big deal.  Thanks all

SIKBIRD:
Try stuffing a piece of rope or twisted up paper towels in tightly around the bottom where the grease came out and pump more grease through the Zirk fitting. This will force the grease to the top.  Been using this method for years, it’s messy but at least you’ll know that the top is getting properly greased.

RKUC:
That's a great suggestion, thanks!

gmeikle:
Yes indeed , thru the grease nipple (zerk fitting) UNLESS you have it apart anyways for other reasons.

HUGE labour to do regreasing by hand if you're not doing something elase..

It slow/flows out for weeks afterwards, keep an eye for that and wipe before it messes everywhere.
